i'm going SINGLE with my AUTO

i just got my car back from RP end of last week. and let me tell you it's running GREAT! but, unfortunately, i need more.

i'm thinking of going with with the APEXi RX-6 set up, WHAT DO YOU SINGLE TURBO GUYS RECOMMEND? especially for an automatic like myself.

MY GOAL: to completely obliterate any Z28, Saleen, Rousch, etc. i don't plan on doing any autocross events or anything, but would like some GOOD characteristics in the corners (i live down a very curvy, very fun to drive road).

A) Can the tranny hold the power?

B) How will you control the shifting?

i'm changing from a 3.9 ratio to 4.3 in the tranny.

as far as shifting goes, what would i need to change? i figured i could just leave it automatic.

Do you mean you are changing the rear end gear ratio?

When I say "control the shifting".... I mean the computer that controls the automatic tranny... the shift points....

I think you might want to call levelten.com and see what they have for the RX-7...

yes, i'm changing the rear end gear ratio to 4.3

and level ten seems to like their stuff a LOT. but i'm still not clear on what i need to do to change the control of the shift points. hopefully RP can handle that.

I was in the same boat. But, I heard nothing but bad things about Level 10. Plus their stuff is stupid expensive.

I wound up converting to manual while the T-78 was going in. ~$3000, and it's brilliant. I loved the automatic, and always stood up for it against the bashers, and though I still think it's just as capable of performance (as long as you're not making more than ~350rwhp ), a manual is just a hell of a lot more fun.

While you're swapping out for the 4.3's, you might consider going with a KAAZ diff. Since it's in the same place, you can save some money on labor by doing it all at once (and it's really expensive labor wise). And if you're ever thinking of running drag radials or slicks on a single turbo car, you probably want the KAAZ.

put your money towards a tranny swap, the auto just can't handle the power. I have an auto and as soon as i put my frontmount intercooler on the tranny went out.

the stock auto (esp. the Torque Convertor) is only good to around 350fwhp - at the very least you will need to upgrade the Torque Conv to a stronger (Level 10 or other?) one.

wassup...
i was recently talking to Dave at KDR when i was down there last weekend and we had nothing but compliments about the auto FD's tranni . The thing that he suggested though to make some power is to upgrade to a level 10 torque converter. This will improve the shift points dramatically and also make it able to handle a good amt of power. He said with these upgrades i would be able to hang with the manual boys, if not SpanK em..hehe Also he mentioned that it would chirp all the way to 3rd gear if i don sell my FD, i might take this route and then go with the AEM as a computer...What u guys think?
