Ignition Breakup/Plug Question

Hi All,

I have standard Mazda coil packs with a new (1 year old) leading and a coil pack direct feed re-wire. My current plugs are 9's leading and 10.5's trailing.

Since fitting my new exhaust manifold/wastegate I have been upping my boost/remapping my top end fuel cells and last night I got upto 1.1 bar, however I have started hitting ignition breakup. I know this area of my map is still somewhat rich (around 10.5 AFR) and the breakup may go away as I lean this off towards 10.9/11 AFR.

But anyway what I am wondering is if my 9 and 10.5 plug combo is suitable ideal for a T04R running over a bar of boost? (estimated maybe 450hp flywheel?)

Daniel

Best recommend to run a paired set of plugs for that specific HP range. Either all 9 or 10.5(s)

Remember iridium plugs foul very easily, so I'd run 11.4 AFR across the board from your max load point (3800-4000) going up into the rpm.

You need either better coils or an HKS ignition amp. The weaker the spark, or richer the AFR the easiest it is to misfire.

Hi,

Thanks for the input guys, I plan on doing the AEM smart coil replacement (rather than the HKS TwinSpark) in the future, maybe I will bring these plans a bit further forward and fingers crossed that'll see me boosting higher
