Idea to spool turbos faster?

I know it may sound hokey, but I've heard of people using their air pump as a "supercharger." Would an air pump provide enough CFM to help spool a turbo if it was plumbed into the exhaust manifold? Would the differences in temperature cause too much turbulence?

imo, it would lower egt's and make the turbo spool slower

That's why I asked about the temperature difference. I was wondering if the increased airflow could overcome the decrease in EGT's.

They use that antilag system where timing is retarded while extra fuel is injected. It causes an explosion which helps keep the turbo spooled up. It works, but it's not the best thing for a turbo.

Yeah, that's what I was going to try. I was just wondering about the air pump thing. I figured it wouldn't work, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I have 2 turbos right now. I guess I could use my T-78 as a primary and my T-76 as a secondary.

I was watching a special on American Movie Classics or something like that on Drag Racing. They had a 4 cylinder intergra funny car on there running twin turbos.Anyways they said they were spooling the turbos with Nitrous but said it was against the rules right now.Are they talking about something else besides the obvious?

Are you planning on using a 4 rotor to spool those things?

what about creating backpressure, maybe a pressure sensitive plate in the downpipe which opens more and more with more exhaust pressure. That way you have the flow of a large diameter exhaust and the spool of a smaller one.

You mean something similar to what Ferrari is using now?

Yeah, I think that's what it is. I remember alot of people talking about making something like that, but nothing ever came out of it, as far as I know. I think that I remember seeing something like that for a Dodge pickup. It could probably be adapted to an RX-7.

Don't sportbikes have something like this? Yamaha's I remember being called an EXUP valve. I'd check into this, but it would seem to require a large chamber to accomodate the area lost to a butterfly assembly.

Exhaust restriction after the turbo only hurts spool, it can't help it.

Arrow Wastegate Control!

It's all about wastegate control.......I have been reading about these type valves to control the wastegate:

http://www.dawesdevices.com/boost.html

and

http://www.dawesdevices.com/race.html

They keep the wastegate completly closed until the desired boost level........this works very well on my car! The improvement in turbo spool is VERY impressive. Take a look and maybe you can get the same parts to make your own.

Hope that helps.....

Isn't that what electronic boost controllers do?

It looks like a good idea, but I'll wait for someone else to try it.
