by the way, he claims that we can make about 460 RWHP with a correctly tunned motor @ 16-17 PSI

coincidently i came across 2 more people that stated that a q wheel was too big for street use, at first this was not the trend but now im hearing more and more that q wheel is not the way to go. they are all sugesting the p wheel with a .96 housing.

too many answers

a friend of mine who sells turbos told me that , the difference between q , and p wheel is not so many big . The problem is to choose the correct hotside a/r , for every application .

I sent this e-mail to cheapturbo.com

Thinking of upgrading my Garrett T66 .96 p-trim to your T72 .96 q-trim. My current exhaust housing has the 3inch v-band attachment welded on it. Does yours? Or what is involved in getting this option? What is the possibility of your Turbonetics .96 housing replacing my Garrett .96 housing with out modifying my down pipe? One more question about exhaust CFM. I am currently running a 13b with very large exhaust ports. With the current exhaust housing and p-trim wheel I am seeing to much back pressure over 20 psi of boost. If I go with the Q-trim wheel how much more CFM will I be able to flow and how much less back pressure will I have? Should I upgrade to a 3.5 or 4 inch down pipe to help relieve some back pressure when I upgrade to your T72 .96 q-trim? Thanks for your inputs/suggestions.

The dyno sheet in your 400hp section is mine, way back when I ran your T3 60-1, on a stock 13b motor.

And this was there reply. I have bought from them and cheapturbo.com does have the best customer service around.

charles,
the turbonetics housing is the same exact placement as the Garrett housing, just a larger cut for the q-trim wheel.
with the back pressure it seems you are seeing from the large port job, i would recommend the 1.15 p-trim instead of the .96 q-trim. the larger housing will actually allow for less backpressure, than the wheel change.
please let us know if you have any other questions 1-877-23-turbo
thanks

Hope this helps. But the 1.15 housing is divided and my .96 housing is not. So now what do I do??? Do I just order a 1.15 p-trim housing, stay with the T66 and build another manifold, so many options.

Dont forget to let everyone know what kind of power you make when you get it on and all tuned in

The Q-trim from turbonetics etc. is an out dated design. The turbine wheel to use for street performance would be the GTQ-trim turbine wheel from Garett or Precision turbo.. Out spools a P-trim and out flows a traditional Q-trim.

Is the one from cheapturbos.com the same one that everyone goes with? I am just wondering because it says it flows 68lbs/min and their T04R says it flows 75lbs/min.

See I had been planning on going with their T04R, and now I seem to have an even better reason.

I"ll throw in my $.02.

I'm running a T04R compressor with a GTQ turbine wheel. The setup made 467RWHP at 19psi with a 10.8:1 AFR and a .84 AR turbine housing. 19psi is seen by 3900 RPM in 4th gear. I really like the setup, but think I want to try one step larger on the AR and go to a 1.0 or .96 which ever.

Problem is that the GTQ turbine wheel require the housing be custom machined... which is $$$$'s. If you go with an undivided housing from precision the cost may be less, but I belive you'll lose performance, even though they claim otherwise.

From cheapturbo told that , the Garrett Big Kahuna T4/T04R , with q trim , 1.0 a/r , GT series wheels flows more than T-66 . Its capable also to produce 700+RWHP.
What do you think guys ?

Nice turbo, but the rear is a little big IMO you'd have too much lag. I'd rather go with a smaller rear like a .96 or even .84 a/r, reason being is that you're most likely not looking for over 600rwhp so why sacrifice the lag? That turbo with a .84 a/r rear can do you just fine up to 600 rwhp.

Believe the claim!
The design of their opened turbine housing is different from everyone's else and spools the turbo just as good as a divided housing in the .81 to 1.00 A/R range.

GTR exhaust wheel

http://www.centralfloridaturbo.com/precision.php

Found this site that shows a GTR exhaust wheel. Anyone try one? Looks like the GTQ wheel is the same size as plain Q-trim wheel, what makes the GTQ-trim wheel better? (Taller wheel, angle of blades.) Not questioning anyones expertise, just trying to understand before I buy one. Now I am thinking of going with a .81 a/r with the GTR-trim exhaust wheel, T72. Thanks

Well I am looking for as close to 500rwhp as I can(425+rwhp @16psi hopefully; more at higher boost on race gas) and don't want boost to fall off at all. Would I be good with the .84 or .96 exhaust housing? I doubt I would ever go past 18psi. With the .84 when should I expect full boost? I really don't want to change out housings so I want to get it right the first time. Thanks.

Im making about 405 RWHP @19 PSI. I came up with this turbo kit a few years ago and although im happy with how the car feels. i feel that i should have gone with a bigger turbo. idealy i would like to be at 480 RWHP if that where possible with the most efficient Turbo setup. Im also open to suggestions, so if someone has any ideas, i wanna hear them
You're only making 405 RWHP at 19 psi on a TS04? Something is amiss. I like the setup you have right now. What kind of EMS are you running? Moreover, what is your current fuel map like? There's more power to be extracted from your setup. 405 rwhp seems too low. If you PM me, I can help you out .
