I need to learn about turbos... Definitions and performance...

Hi guys,

I know my title is kind of generic... however i need to learn about turbos in general. I quickly looked through the FAQ but didnt really find what i was looking for. I know all the chemistry behind turbocharging very well, just not all the physical attributes and performance differances between different models.

I just want to know stuff like the differance between t4 (divided/undevided) and t3 and any other designs but more importantly their performance differances, and all the terminology that goes along with it.. AR and stuff like that. IE diagram would be great. The performance differance of long runners vs short. Different housing sizes, inlet sizes, exhaust sizes.... etc etc.

I will start work on my FD in a couple months to possibly go to a gt35r, however i just need a really good understanding of everything to make all the correct choices that will get me to my goals. The only reasn why i say gt35r is becuase from what i have read its an exellent turbo for 350-400hp with great response.

Thanks in advance...

i would be happy to impart whatever info you seek (as long as i possess it) if you PM me with specific questions, if you wish. the worst case scenario is you wait a few days for me to say "i don't know and i can't think of someone that does." seriously though, if i don't know something, i can usually think of someone that does. specific questions though, please ...

if you're not going to be doing all the work yourself, you're probably going to be better off talking to the builder/tuner you choose - if the person you choose is not willing to take the time with you before work begins to make sure that you're informed and comfortable with the hardware you both choose, then you're probably better off looking someone that will.
