I need a good recommended turbo.Info provided

Im looking at good custom turbo for 500fwp with little lag as possible. This is for a 3rd gen.

I will use stock 5 speed gearing.A 17lb flywheel with a 2 disc clutch.extended streetport.major exhuast port.custom exhuast manifold for the exhuast port job.a 4.77 rear end gearing and 315 to 335/40/18 rims and tires?

please do not tell me a t78 unless it will give that to me at 15lbs and 2700-3000 rpms with the mods i listed.

Ive thought about a t66 from garrett.it sounds very reasonable and rebuildable in america.

thanx ahead

T66 will not spool that fast without nitrous.

Looks like we have the same goals there Twint78...I'll be using a GT35/40 to meet my requirements.

What kind of application are you using the car for? If it's going to be a full dedicated track car you should probably Bridge or P-port it and use a nice big turbo like a T78. As for me, I'll be driving the car around on the street quite a bit so I can't go with a turbo that only reaches full boost at 4krpm as opposed to 3krpm...it would make it not nearly as fun to drive

335 on the rear wheels huh!? What rims do you plan on using??? Also, what kind of a body work are you doing to the rear end? You realize the stock body can not take wheels that big...I'll probably be using 11.5" wheels in the back and 10-10.5" up front with the RE Amemiya GT kit which is quite pricey! (gotta love the looks of it though!)

hey chronos ive had a t78 on my old stock 2 rotor b4 i went v8.the lag wasnt too bad even though i prefer close to none.

so a gt35/40 will spin at 3k rpms?will it support 500hp?

335's will have some fender flares from pettit.

i will use this car as a weekend cruiser, but will also be setup for mountain racing and autocrossing, and some dragging.

twint78, talk to Nocab72 about the GT35/40, he has one that's about 500rwhp on a L.S.P. pineapple engine. I'm not exactly sure what mountain racing is, but I suspect it has some serious inclines which 500rwhp would be great for

In regards to autocrossing and dragging however, 500rwhp would probably be waaaay too much hp for autocrossing and not enough hp for drag racing. It's my experience that the quickest guys around the autocross track are almost always the SuperStock guys, ofcourse a bit of more power would help you for sure, you really don't need that much unless you can completely control it throughout the entire track...in that case you'd still probably only use it about 2 to 3 seconds. The guy with the orange sponsored 2300lb 3rotor with about 400hp that races in SCCA autocross didn't have much better times than than the fastest FD in SS, and that's with 500 less lbs mind you!

As for drag racing, if you want to be competitive you should probably have an HKS T51 Kai or SPL with some nitrous. But what the hell fun is drag racing anyways? The trick is really making your car launch correctly like Ari Yallon's car does. Half the guys I see can't even get a clean run and most of the time it's due to a blotched launch. Stay away from those drag strips with the FD! If you want to compete in the drags use a First gen or an RX3, Aside from being super cheap, they have an easier time transfering force to the rear wheels (most of the time in a wheelie) than an FD which results in a cleaner, faster, and more controllable launch.

At any rate, good luck with your project...keep us updated

P.S. Ohh yeah, what kind of rims will you be using???

Chronos,

Im not sure what company or which style rims i would using, so i do not want to step ahead of myself.

i know what color i am looking for though.which is the same style ceramic look coating that the z06 uses. They greyish-black look.

i will keep you updated on the project. You can catch updates at the rotary resurrection thread.

as far as 500rwhp/fwhp.This will not be completely 500hp all the time.thats why im looking for an all around turbo.something the can top out at 500hp for dragging.hey i do not need to go low 10's or anything like this.I would be happy with a car that can just go.I can then turn the boost down, and have a turbo that will stilll spool up early for autocrossing, so i could be quick to get out the corners.

The turbo I have for sale will be good for your application... depending on your port work. I guess the best way to put it the faster you want it to spool the bigger the port. It will support 500+hp. I have another thread in this forum w/ a link to the pics. It nearly impossible to make that kindof power that early w/o nitrous. If you want BIG power you have to wait a few rpms.
