I can believe this is happend. My HKS T04R just broken

Last night When I took my FD out. and when I decide to do some testing. so I floor at 2 gear,WOT. Boost to 12PSI, (At this time I feel my car is not fast as before). and when I let go the GAS I hread a very strange sound front RHD side of engine bay.(I was thinking mabe the BOV's Vac hose was loose). Today. I decide to some more testing. so I took MY FD out. fill 5 GAL of racing GAS at 76. and find a empty street. and do another WOT 2 gear pull. this time the boost only went to 4 PSI. and car is very very slow and I heard another strange noise from RHD how ever it is different from last night . so I was think (mm.. mabe my EVC V is not function right) so I turn it off. and do another WOT pull. This time Turbo wont even boost.... and I dont even heard my Turbo's sound. This is getting worse. so I better head back to do some Dianostic. on the way back, few thing pop in my head. mabe wastegate stock open. or the vacm line etc etc.

When I head back I open my hood. and checking the waste gate . it seen to be fine. so I decide to took MY HKS filter off. I just cant believe my eye. when I took off the filter. The T04R is not turning.... it stack there. so I got my light and give a better look. I can see the NUT to hold down compressor wheel's( dont know wha that call) is missing. and the fin have a little bit of chip... then I start to look for the nut. I find it inside of my HKS filter. and I was checking the nut. I look around tread area. It did not strip. so what da hell it fell off... I just dont believe it. this

I know HKS tubo kit dont come with warranty. but I only have this kit for less than 2 year/ and put about 3K mile and I never boost over 14 PSI and this is hight mode. usually I did a 12 PSI. so I better call HKS USA. and hope they can give a better answer

and did any of you have similar experience

Another guy in another thread was saying that if the compressor housing is loose and has play, the turbine will catch on the housing. Maybe this happened and since it was stuck the shaft kept on spinning and the nut flew off?

All you can do now is take the turbo right out and check it out, see what the **** did happen.

Those pics are identical, just slightly sharper...
Its obvious that the turbine was not spaced properly with the housing, i mean look at it! its ******* trying to come out the front!

That is like someone complaining that their lug nuts came loose and their wheel fell off and being told that their lug nuts obviously came loose *because* their wheel fell off. I don't know how you can tell what the *cause* of this problem was by the picture.

However, I do understand your point -- that perhaps the compressor housing was not properly installed, hit the wheel, and that caused the nut to come loose. Is the compressor housing installed properly (fasteners tight, etc.)? My guess is that it is installed properly, and is not the cause of this problem. However, it is worth a check.

This isn't the first turbo to lose a nut. You need to get the turbo serviced. Does anyone know what might lead to this problem, and what can be done the second time around to prevent it from happening again?

Unfortunately your bulet nut came off. it has been two years and i think they only have a 30day warranty policy on any turbos and you have to buy it from a authorized dealer...
HKS doesnt rebuild or offer replacement parts they make you buy a new complete turbo

good luck

I can rebuild your turbo if you would like but I will not use the bullet nut and I think you know the reason why.

You're looking at a new compressor wheel, minimum. See if you can find a turbo shop that can rebuild it - if they can get the parts, and the turbine didn't mess up too bad, you should be OK and pretty cheap to fix.

I would also pull your intercooler. When the compressor wheel hits the compressor housing, it creates aluminum shavings, which typically are caught in the intercooler. Pull and clean your IC - hopefully none of the shavings got into the motor.

I think the normal cause for that nut to come off is just vibration. It might not have been torqued right, didn't have thread sealant on it, who knows.
