How much clearance between the chassis and the turbo is sufficient? I have just over 1/4” between the chassis and the compressor and am concerned that the compressor will make contact with the chassis when the motor twists under load. Bear in mind the engine has eurathane motor mounts.

Some kits I've seen have as little as that. The fabricators of those kits suggest getting a torque brace in many instances.

How much does the engine move?

1/4" would have me worried, urethane mounts or no. 1" at a bare minimum.

Take a large pry bar and pry under the mount. That should give you an idea of how much the engine moves. In my opinion a torque brace is a ghetto bandaid solution to the real problem, weak motor mounts.

Should not be an issue with your motor mounts but for insurance you could "clearance" the rail ... beat the hell out of it to give some more room for the turbo.

Thanks for the input guys. If I need more room I'll have the manifold turbo flange tilted towards the motor slightly. I'd rather pay for a couple hours of labor to do that than try to adapt the chassis to fit a poorly designed part.

However, with that said I'm still not sure how much clearance I need. Peejay suggested 1" What do the rest of you think-is 1" too much, too little? For those of you that are curious, I posted pictures of the turbo mounted on the manifold in my single turbo thread on nopistons

Quarter inch. That's more than I have and I have no hitting problems and I have stock motor mounts. Which kit do you have Chris?

That is good to hear. Thats for your input. I'm using a T04s with a 35R compressor and one of the infamous Autochrome manifolds.
