I have an 83 12aT and it is not intercooled, for some reason they never intercooled em back then. I was woundering if, and how i can intercool it. and what parts i may need so i can start collecting parts. I've always had a first gen since 93 and this is my first turbo motor. and after my dad died it just got hard finding parts and getting advice, since not many people around here run rx7's. my dad was one of the few

 

might be a whole lot easier to run 100% meth inj.

but if you want to IC the 12A. You'll need an adaptor to the carb, then run a pipe to the outlet of the IC, and fab a pipe from the turbo to the inlet of the IC. Then weld a BOV on.

search Howard Coleman and meth...and you should find all the info regarding aux. injection.

 

Its fuel injected. but i want to convert. and a search on howard colman and meth turned out fruitless.

here is a good start.

 

buy a resonable size core (24X8X2.5 or something close should be more then adiquate), buy a generic intercooler piping kit with bends or get a muffler shop to make you bends to plumb it all up. Its just that simple. Use common sence in your IC location and pipe placements. Make sure none of the fittings will leak and if there are any welds, they don't leak.

Well i have the intercooler and the piping. thing is i need to find a place that sells an intake manifold, or adapter plate I need. Take a look at the turbo in the above picture and the way it feeds into the intake manifold. it burns me up that they didnt think to intercool it.

 

I think what everyone is trying to say is that you won't find an adapter plate pre-fab'd. from greddy or any other brand. You'll need to get creative and possibly have a race fab shop fab you up a TB adapter that will allow you to connect a 2.5 inch silicone coupler to it.

 

Thanx every body i now have the idea of what i need todo and will post pics of the results in a week or two.

 

What material is the plenum ( section of red pipe from the turbo to the throttle body) made of ?, you can easily cut and modify it putting an elbow on the turbos discharge to direct the air forward to the IC and do a connection for a coupling hose at the plenum so that you can hook up an IC pipe.

It's probably cast aluminum.

 

I don't know the dimensions of the throttle body but a generic Carb Hat might be another place to start with..

Yep they are cast. They are easily modified though. This is a pic of what most people do with the stock plenum.
