How dd you learn to tune?
I am interested in learning the ins and outs of tuning(without blowing up several engines first) and was wondering how you guys got started. Is there any reading material/websites ect that you could point me to? I have been reading alot on the forum about it but there are still plenty of things that are a mystery to me. Honestly I doubt I would ever tune my own car, or anyone elses, but I would really like to understand the thoery behind it.

understanding how everthing works is a good place to start. try reading some books. bosch automotive handbook is good. maximum boost by corkey bell is a descent book too.
i am still trying to learn myself.

I took my ecu to xs engineering and they screwed it all up TWICE. after the second batch of well tuned xs detonation I decided to do it myself with the help of a friend. I did a lot of research...asked lots of questions...and then proceeded with A LOT of caution and patience.
if you know what you are shooting for (afrs...no negative split...etc...) then its not rocket science. I cant believe shops mess the stuff up...as long as you pay attention it is possible to get it done right.
perfectly tuning a vehicle is an art...and you will make mistakes...but if you are patient and do your research you can be sure it is done right rather than trusting some shop who has no stake in your investment.

Pay Badog (Tony) to tune your car when he is in Indy in April and pick his brain the entire time. You'll get a good tune and yield quite a bit of knowledge just from watching.

Actually that was my plan, to get you Columbus boys in on it. Maybe I will get my 35/40 in before you move and I could get both of you on it. I was wanting to get it tuned by then but I may just take a trip over to Ohio when I get the motor broke in. Kyle, are you still coming to Indy?
PS. Everytime I hear about XS its beacuse they **** something up, whats up with that????
