request for advice on single turbo model

been over 12 years since I last built a single turbo RX-7. I am preparing to take my 1st gen big turbo out of storage, derust and rebuild the body work, and of course its time to work on the engine.

car as it was when put away 9 years ago:

HKS TO4S (60-1 garret)
power FC with data logit
720/1600cc injectors (nippondenso/bosch)
dual fuel pump w/surge tank
sard FPR
custom exhaust manifold
greddy 50mm wastegate
custom -10 fuel lines (was planning to go e-85 but it never came over to japan)
custom water injection, pre-turbine.
custom FMIC

So the turbine blades are eroded from the water injection, I knew that when I put it away. the center section itself is in poor shape as well so I want to see what is available In todays market. I have several manifolds both HKS cast, HKS stainless, and custom stainless both stainless are divided volute ie: twinscroll and the cast of course is not. what Turbo comes in a T-4 footprint, is ball bearing and makes in the 350-450 RWHP range at 14-17 PSI?

I could search for days but figure as long as I have been out of the game its finally time for me to ask for suggestions. Please no ebay specials or china specials. prefer quick spooling but with decent flow on the hotside, I can live with less HP if the spool and flow on the hotside end up dictating that.

Glad to be back

I'd look at a Borg Warner EFR 8374 or a Garrett G-30 series turbo. Those will be your two top choices. The EFR line is very established as a quality turbo. The Garrett G-series is the new kid on the playground and it's looking sexy af.

If you really want to prioritize response over power then I'd look at the EFR 7670 (I went that route) or the G-25. They'll be lower in the power potential, but you're not likely to find a quicker spooling modern single.

On my FC I went from T04B 60-1 with smaller HiFi compressor cover and P trim exhaust wheel to EFR 7670.

I had maxed the 60-1 out @ 385rwhp (more boost didnt make any more peak power, just power under the curve) and the EFR 7670 not only made 420rwhp, but the response and torque was amazing.

I highly recommend EFR 7670 or go EFR 8374 if you want more power.

^ seeing your results is actually what made me get a 7670 (despite already having a brand new 9174 on hand). I can't wait to see how it'll perform on my setup

Good to see you two greasy ape's still hanging out here. So the Borg Warner EFR 7670 looks like I need to investigate it. in a body as light as mine is anything over 300 at the wheels is like a friggin rocket anyway. you know the japanese lower roads are narrow and at 54 top speed is no longer as attractive as it used to be. which vendors are currently trustworthy? (not baggin on anybody but we all have seen the ups and downs on this forum, specially since IB took over.

kenn

edit: i just realized i have a brand new turbonetics 62-1 still sitting in the box from 10-12 years ago... wonder if it will fit on my truck?

I feel ya... my FD was down for the better part of a decade and I learned the joys of ripping an NA miata through twisty back roads. Excess power (without good traction control) is a hindrance to joy there! 350whp is enough for enjoyment in most situations with my FD, and having the option to crank up into the mid-400's for a highway flex doesn't hurt.

I would purchase from Full-race.com, or check with BW directly to see who their dealer/distributor is on the islands (avoid the international shipping duties and fees). Definitely make sure that BW recognizes whoever you purchase from as a dealer, otherwise you'll run into problems if/when any repairs or warranty work is needed. Some merchants in this community put themselves out like they're a dealer, but they really just buy from full-race and resell.

My shop ordered my 7670 directly from BW and it took about 3-6 months to be made and arrive. This was ordered before the coof really took hold of the world.

how about stateside vendors? I can get my stuff shipped to the base I work at and have no tariffs or taxes...Plus I can use the USPS for delivery here so = cheap.
