Hmm... Toss the 62-1?

Hey guys.

Since I lost a couple'a apex seals, I'm debating whether or not I should toss the 62-1 while I'm rebuilding and opt for a quicker spooling turbo... I'm not too keen on waiting 'til 4500-5000 for full boost...

My first thought is GT35R.. but I'm not against any ball-bearing T4 turbo. Just for reference, my 62-1 has a .96 A/R hotside, and I'd like to see my boost near 1 bar by 3500-4000 RPM instead of 4500-5000.

Thoughts?

you could also just change the hot side to a smaller one....that will do it to

Or move to a better exhaust manifold, larger exhaust system, smaller compressor section, and move to a divided tang 1.0 turbine housing...

Porting the Housings while the engine's out?
Seems kinda laggish for a 62-1 does'nt it?

**EDIT** I just now saw your sig with the large Street Port.

That was also what I was thinking. How much better response do you think this could possibly net me? (few hundred RPM, 1,000+ RPM?)

I love the power this turbo makes, I just wish it would make it quicker.

Oh, also, Revvin.. what about a smaller divided housing? (.8'ish)

I'm installing my AI system as soon as the engine's back in, so I could possibly opt for a smaller divided housing with a better divided manifold and crank the boost up and get the boost response and power I want, no?

just like elliot said, bigger downpipe or full exhaust for that matter (3.5 or 4") and a well designed tubular manifold will get you faster spoolup.

yeah, i think a large streetport should be spooling that turbo quicker. after the car gets back up and running, make changes in your exhaust setup before you toss the turbo.

3" downpipe, 1 blank 3" cat (probably hurting), one presilencer in A'pexi GT (don't think it'd have much effect).

I think it might be my manifold. Something has always been fishy about it. Oh well, I'm still opting for a new divided 1.0 hotside and divided manifold. That should do it no matter what. :P

PS: Is your turbo the ceramic ball-bearing 62-1, though? Mine isn't, and that would make a huge difference.

i guess i should have mentioned that, mine is dual ball bearing. so that may help me. I loved my turbo, best turbo for the street and road course or drag. Great top end and it pulls really hard. I also have a q trim turbo with the big shaft option

Wow that is kind of laggish. I have a 60mm wheel and want more power. I was just gonna put a 64mm in my E housing. I've been told that I just don't have enough compressor. Everything else is the same.

Keep in mind that if you lost apex seals, then your turbo more than likely has turbine wheel damage.

Yeah, unfortunately mine isn't ball-bearing. It is indeed a great turbo for power (which is why I've decided to keep it and tweak it a bit to bring the response up), it would just be a completely different turbo with ceramic bb.

Luckily for me I was running the soft Hurley 3mm seals. This engine has lost seals 4 times so far, and the turbo hasn't been affected yet. Of course I'll make sure it's still okay, and I'll probably have it "rejuvenated," but I'm not so worried about the wheel actually being damaged.

I am having a t04r wheel (66.5mm ind) put in my E cover as we speak (was a 57trim)... the to4r is a popular wheel.

What makes you think you don't have enough compressor? Its easy to misdiagnose to small of a compressor...
