HKS wastegate spring question

I have a 50 mm HKS wastegate with the 14 lb spring installed. i Have a new engine with single turbo kit composed of different brands. I ordered a 7lb wastegate spring to break the engine in on and work out any bugs i might have. The spring is obviously lighter, but the diameter is smaller and doesnt appear to fit in the wastegate as neatly as the stock spring. It has probably a good 1/4 inch all the way around difference. (serving from memory as i put the other spring back in) I would think the springs are supposed to be the same diameter. Can anyone confirm this? Would running a smaller width spring cause any issues?
