HKS Racing Wastegate users!!

Am I supposed to be seeing the spring inside (yellow)on the HKS Racing Wastegate?

I was told I should not see the spring and there should be a diaphram there...
Let me know what you think!

Which hole should the boost controller be hooked up to?

Here is a pic...

Uh, what happened to the vacuum fitting (larger) and the adjustment stud (smaller) that's supposed to be in those holes?

Mine has the same pressure range stamped on the housing, and I can see my spring, but it isn't yellow. Mine does not look to be any strong color. Perhaps they missed the section that is showing through the hole when they painted the spring.

You hook constant manifold pressure to the port on the side. You tee off that line and run a hose into the NC port of the boost control solenoid. Then you connect a line from the COMMON port on the solenoid to the top hole on the wastegate (the one in the pics we posted). Make sure the flow path to the wastegate side port is big and has no or minimal obstruction. The hose to the solenoid can be smaller.

I have the same WG, the yellow spring means it's a 14.5 psi or 1bar spring.

The diphram is on the bottom, you will see it if you pull the 4 allen screws that hold the spring on, BE CAREFULL the 1 bar spring is under alot of tension so you will need to push down on the housing if you decide to pull it apart.

The silicone diaphram runs up the sides of the top section and is hidden by the plate that holds the bottom of the spring and the WG shaft.

According to HKS USA.

For the racing wastegate

yellow: 0.7 kg/cm2 (10 psi)
purple: 1.0 kg/cm2 (14.2 psi)
gray: 1.3 kg/cm2 (18.5 psi)
brown: 1.6 kg/cm2 (22.8 psi)

For standard wastegate:

white: 0.4 kg/cm2
blue: 0.68 kg/cm2
light blue: 0.7 kg/cm2
yellow: 1.0 kg/cm2
purple: 1.4 kg/cm2

Yours looks like the racing wastegate so it should be 0.7 kg/cm2 spring (10 psi)

I have the same wastegate, HKS racing WG with the 0.8-1.2 bar spring. It will crack open at 5 psig and it's full open at 10 psig, BUT, it leaks like crazy above 5 psig. Using a small bike handpump, you have to pump like made to keep it full open.

On my streetported 94 with a KKK turbo, the boost will creep to 16 psig by 5500-6000 rpm and will not go any lower. I have run a line directly from the turbo outlet to the side port on the WG (no boost controller for this test) with the WG outlet routed to atmosphere, still get 16 psig by 6000 rpm. Any suggestions??

My next try I'll use larger diameter line, I just cannot see using a larger WG ... maybe two are needed??

Kyle
