highway acceleration test for you single FD guys...
according to Rob Robinette's site, a stock FD should go from 40-70 mph in about 4.9 seconds in thrid gear...and a lightly modified one, about 4.2 seconds. you guys with single turbo FD's...what kind of times do you get when you do this test?? also, post your setup and how much boost you runnin.
just wanna see how much faster a single turbo FD really is.
thanks.

I do 100kph (62.1MPH) to 170kph (105.6MPH) in 4.46sec in 3rd gear.....
My car weighs 1070kg + me 79kg (1149kg) or 2533LB.
I have never tested my car at that low a speed in third....My single turbo pulls hard from 5000rpm to 8400rpm which I think is the aim of single turbo minded people. You go for the best spread of power to match your ratio's to redline, this will make a fast car.
I may test mine in that lower speed (rev) range 3150rpm (40mph) to 5520rpm (70mph) but I know the performance will not be good because it is out of my power band.
OK, I found a data log for the lower speed in 3rd gear
40 to 70 MPH in 3.44 sec ! pretty slow compared to
62 to 105 MPH in 4.46 sec, you can see where my power is !
All tests done at 1 bar boost, the lower speed my boost average is only 10.5 psi (40 to 70), as apposed to 14 psi average (62 to 105) with a peak of 14.5 psi boost (1 BAR).

Ok, in second gear it does 40 to 70 MPH in 2.1 seconds...the only problem is that it does this while spining the rear tires (hard) from 5000rpm to 8400rpm rev limit.
From the point I grab third gear when the cluch is released the revs drop back to 5500rpm or exactly 70mph.
If I had grip it would do this well under 2.1 seconds (more like 1.6sec) (in second gear) as apposed to 3.44 seconds (in third gear).
But that is guess work and the real results are as follows
40- 70mph in 2nd gear 2.1 sec (violent wheel spin)
40- 70mph in 3rd gear 3.44 sec (not in power band)

(Ok enough with 40-70 in 3rd... let's try 30-50 (50-80km's) in 5th! I got 6.3sec in that one... stump-puller 12A I've got

Interesting thread. I'd kind of like to see some of the FD owners posting
I just went back through some logs, these are averaged times for my car (1st Gen)
2nd gear 40-70mph averages around 1.4
3rd gear 40-70mph averages around 1.9
I don't have a 62-105mph handy, but my car does 0-105mph in around 6.5 seconds
With my Turbo (GTBB) it makes a lot of power down low compared to some other turbos. I have a mate with a very nice T66 turbo, when his car was making more peak power than mine we decided it would be good to see the difference in power curves. We overlayed them on the computer, and the gap was HUGE! To give some idea of the difference, at 4500rpm I was making 100rwhp (dyno dynamics) more than he was!
On the road it was not even close, even though he had more peak power!
Peak power isn't everything!

Oh yeah, all my logs are with street tires, full exhaust and on a normal road.
If I bolt up some slicks and go to a drag track and use a lower diff, like my 4.44 it would be a different story.
But I could not drive it on the road, or do 300+kph
It is not a drag setup
Excuses, Excuses

Hi Rice, How's that PP coming along?
I want to know what it makes once you start dialling up some boost
Just thought I'd clarify, my 40-70mph splits are on normal roads and street tyres.
The 0-105mph time is from the strip (my car runs 105+mph to half track at the moment). Although I have to say it's a bit slow because of my "circuit" suspension setup (king springs, koni shocks) and could be improved if it was more of a drag setup :p
AJC13B, just log it in 2nd from 3000rpm to 8000rpm, and do the same in 3rd. Then tell me your tyre sizes and I'll tell you which rpm gaps to measure
