Help Needed

I have a stock Mazda Cosmo 13b-re engine which I've put in a VW dune buggie, but I've taken off the twin turbos and would like to use a single turbo.

What I would like to know is which turbo would be better suited to give me minimal lag with 15psi boost max.

A T3/T4 or a TO4B

I would realy like to use the TO4B but I do not want any turbo lag.

Has anyone out there ever used a T3/T4 or a TO4B on a 13b engine please give me advise.

very cool project!!

Stay away from t3/ sized turbos unless its just a T3 sized footprint newer GT series turbo (GT35R).

Go with a T04 turbine in a p-trim.

for a divided manifold choose between .84, 1.00, 1.15 A/R turbine housings. Divided manifold and divided turbine will offer better spool and better flow when compaired to an equal A/R turbine thats not divided.

For a simpler and cheaper merged collected non-divided manifold, go with a .96 A/R turbine.

For choosing a compressor, we needd to know what power level your looking to get, but T04B would be a good starting point.

Hi Mike I already have a divided manifold.

I'm looking to get about 250 - 275 hp as the engine is in a very light car, but again I don't want any lag

Which turbos have divided turbine?

I am leaning towards a P trim with a 0.84 divided housing... and for the compressor... maybe a T4E 60 trim and then run around 10-11 PSI of boost instead of 15.

I dunno, maybe someone with more experience in the 250-300 hp range would offer better advice. Most people on here with single turbos are shooting for 350-450 rwhp at 15-20 PSI, so ... not a lot of experience with smaller applications for lighter vehicles.

I was just down in Antigua a few weeks ago.. it would have been cool to meet up since I come from VWs. Are you running Type 1 gearbox in that thing? I know it's light but you'll be breaking spider gears all day long with a decent turbo.

I'm guessing you're not going to run much of an exhaust so that should help with the spooling.. and what everyone else is saying sounds about right.. .84 divided housing with a to4b should put you in the ballpark.
