help GT CHRA #, I got ripped off, need to sell but dunno what it's worth

I bought what was supposed to be a GT3540R off ebay and it is a GT series with ball bearings and .70A/R compresser with unkown T3 exhaust side. The CHRA # is 700177-501A which a mechanic told me is a GT30 turbo, this is no good. I paid $930 is that something someone with the appropriate car would possibly pay on ebay and which cars is it good for? I hope I don't loose alot, the guy was honest I think, was selling for his cousin but I paid by money order so no paypal to help out. I'll just pony up and get an A-Spec kit but gotta offload this first.

The 700177 certainly looks like a GT30 CHRA #. But to make sure, take off the compressor housing and measure the inducer and exducer.

I'd contact the seller first and say he sold you something other than what he advertised.

Yeah, I didn't say I wanted my money back yet though, I'll be nice. I bought it off ebay but paid with a money order so I don't think they could do much. I'll just resell it if I lose any money make him pay the difference. He still says it's a 1300 dolalr turbo but he's gonna find out where it came from and the specs on it. He didn't know it was a 30 either. I think I'll just save up and get the A-Spec kit, which would mean I'd have an ss autochrome manifold and 50mm wastegate for sale.

Don't be so nice about it, you thought you were buying a GT3540 turbo and you got something different. That's false advertising, and he needs to man up and send you your money back AND pay to ship the turbo back to him.

Yeah I know, thanks for the advice, but if I make him mad and he doesn't do anything would ebay do anything even though it was a money order and not paypal? And he wasn't lying about selling for his cousin, the person I sent the money too and the person that shipped it were different states even. Anyway, hopefully it'll work out so I can put the money towards an A-Spec kit.

I'm not too familiar with eBay's rules for false advertising, but it would be definitely something to go after. Contact eBay and ask about it...

Has he replied to your refund request?

Not yet, I'm kinda hesitant to take it apart and just waiting to hear back from the guy after he talks to his cousin. I took apart the factory turbo to see if it had a blown coolant seal instead of the engine and stripped a bolt or couldn't get it back together correctly or something and I don't want to damage this one.

taking the compressor cover off is very simple and shouldn't break anything if you're being careful. there should just be ~6 bolts holding it on, and it should come off relatively easily. Just be careful with the compressor wheel to not ding it or anything and you'll be ok.

yeah, considering everything else I've done that's kinda silly, I'll measure and post what I come up with.
