Help adjusting boost on my t-78!!
I bought my r1 with t-78 already installed. but the boost is at 12 psi, i wanted to bump it up to about 15 psi or so. YOu can see my mods in my sig. The guy i bought it from said not to adjust anything on the power FC, to make adjustments of boost on the wastegate. Is this what you guys reccommend?? DO i just tighten the nut on the end of the wastegate? What would equal a 2-3psi adjustment?: 1/2 a revolution, 1 revoution, multiple revolutions?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THanks guys!

WOndering how much you paid for this puppy?? r1 with t-78, man the list of mods almost match mine, part for part. heheh I've spunt almost 20k.. heheh but it was quite the learning experience doing all the work myself. DO you know how muc rwhp you are putting out at 12psi? He might be telling you to not adjust it becuase he thinks you need to get a good feel of the car at 12 psi before bumping it up to 15.. plus all the tunning that went into getting it running stable at 12 psi.. Is this a daily driven car???

dynoed at 330rwhp at 10psi, hasn't been dyno'd at 12, i've been driving it at 12psi for about a month. I paid 23k for it, but split the cost with a buddy of mine. ITs not either or our daily drivers. I would like to one day start from scratch, but i didn't have the know how to do that this time. Plus i've read several places that you can save alot of money getting one already fixed up and i think i did. YOu said you spent 20k on mods on yours. I figure with no mods the cars worth 13k, plus it probably has 20k in mods (counting engine rebuild with only 2k miles on new motor and turbo, etc.) plus at least another 10k in labor. I'll probably replace the fuel pump and the secondaries with 1600cc and a new fuel rail. I still plan on doing work on the car, but i think i saved a little bit of money doing it this way, although some would disagree.
Still haven't answered my question on how to adjust the boost. BTW - i think i can handle the added boost, and i've filled the tank up with 30% 104 octane race gas in case turning up the boost makes detonation more likely, but i don't think this was necessary.

Loosen up the nut then with an allen wrench turn the bolt so it threads into the wastegate. Be careful cause you can tighten the spring to much, which will cause you spike when you least expect it. Assuming that you are using the wastegate that came with the kit anything over 14 psi and you are risking it. If you want more boost replace the spring or buy a boost controller. With your set-up I would get the Apex-i AVC-R. I have t-78 with 1200cc sec. and run 15psi on the street everyday. However I am going to get 1600cc real soon and run 17-18psi on street.

so don't adjust the "boost"setting on the Power FC at all? How many revolutons would be appropriate to turn the bolt on the wastegate if i'm running 11-12 psi right now, and i'd like to run 14-15psi. Thanks for your help! and yes i'm using the wastegate taht came with the kit.
I appreciate your help!

Be sure that the boost setting in the Power FC is high enough that you won't hit fuel cutoff. It will cut fuel at .25 over....

I would atleast keep 1/4 inch of the bolt exposed. After making the adjustment dont take your eye off the boost guage for a few days. Also watch A/F ratio make sure its not running lean. I had mine to about 1/8 inch exposed and boost was solid at 14psi Then I decieded I was going to get it to 15psi so i turned it about 1-1.5 turns and went for a test drive. Boost was around 14.5psi and I was satisfied. The next day I got on the highway and it spiked to over 25psi and blew the motor. So be happy with 14psi until you get a boost controller.
