well ****! Brand new blanket, I really wanted to use that too Well looks like a turbo blanket is going up for sale................damnit!

Thanks for the info.

edit: the coating i got for my turbine housing is some stuff that can withstand more heat than the black satin stuff. The manifold is going to be done in black satin 2000 degree stuff and uper and lower intake manifolds are going to be done in the lower temp higher shine stuff.

/\ Sounds good to me.

Do you know how they apply the 2000*F+ coating by chance?

not really sure. brian with BDC who is a member on this site really recomended performance coating in dallas so I went ahead and sent everything to them. Asked a few questions about temp but not much else. we will see how it goes. I have full confidence in him, he really seemed like he knew what he was talking about.

damn! I wasn't sure they had coatings that could withstand that much heat? well hopefully my egt's won't be getting anywhere near that high

Seriously, what's with the lowballing. If you want it sooo bad give him a "reasonable" offer and I'm sure he'd atleast entertain it. Otherwise if he really wanted to he could just as easily post it in the F/S section for like $120 shipped and people would be ALL over it.

I told KONFS $110 shipped since he asked in the other thread, but haven't gotten a reply yet. And its the silver one. If I don't hear from him after tomorrow i'll just assume he doesn't want it and someone else can take it. Actually, now that I think about it, a local guy wanted it, but its been about a year and he hasn't said anything, I should probably check with him first.

I should sell it pretty quick though, this 20b swap pretty much drained any extra money I had/have. Selling some extra stuff might help me recoop some $$.
I actually have all sorts of stuff from my 20b swap that i'll be posting here in a week or so. I was going to sell the blanket at the same time.

Nothing's ever been this easy to sell on here, i should just mention stuff in random threads more often.

Thanks for a much needed laugh! Thanks for the idea though, Sometimes my thighs get real hot, maybe by shielding my ******** it may reduce my under pants temps

edit: on a less childish humor note lol, I was actually going to sell my brand new silver one for 120 shipped.

Then why hasn't he done it. It doesn't make any money sitting in his garage. And I was half assed joking. I would ******* make one before I'd pay $140. But hey thats just me. Either way good luck with the sale, and good looking car. Don't freak out over the lowball, its not lowballing if thats all the money I've got right now.

Why haven't i done it, because I dont have to. I'm too busy right now to even bother with trying to sell anything, and I have quite a bit of stuff to sell. I'm just going to tackle all of it at one time. I have a dyno day this saturday, Sevenstock the next saturday, and SEMA for the whole week on the way back home from Cali. Plus trying to wrap up all the **** I still have to do on my car.

I don't care if you lowball, at least not in this thread. If I posted in the FS section and you did it, i'd just ignore it, as would most people. Plus, it was just a joke anyway, so who the hell cares.

KNONFS never replied, so i'm just gonna put it up for sale with all the rest of my 2-rotor stuff in a week or so.

Lets get back on topic, if anyone has more questions/comments that is.

I have a question :

I was wondering what your take is on "heat shields" rather than "heat wraps." I was thinking of making one similar to the link showing the custom one the Supra owner made for the hotside of the turbo. Any help is appreciated.

BTW- My turbo, dp, and manifold are all ceramic coated. This would just be for extra protection for the LIM.

Your best bet is to get the good, but expensive, ceramic coating. This will keep the heat inside and you wont have to bother with all the heat shielding. I have my turbo manifold, turbine housing, downpipe, and LIM coated. Hit the heat at the source. If its still not enough, do the shielding.

Nice pic. I have question for you though. PM check.

From the main discussion i would imagine a heat sheild would work fine. The ceramic coating would still be able to dissipate heat and the heat sheild would obsorb that heat rather than letting it heat the rest of the engine bay.

^Thanks! That's what I figured as well, but just wanted some confirmation before I undertook the task of making one.

Well don't take my word as fact, but it seems logical enough for me because there is airspace between the heat sheild and the coated hotside, but with a blanket/wrap there isn't. If it means anything i'd feel comfortable doing it on my own car :P, and probably will.

Then it would appear you and I have the same problem, cash (or lack thereof)

A good friend is going built 20B GT42R (102mm) plus all the goodies and after seeing the obscene amount of money he's spent, I am content with my puny 2 rotor for now

Smart move Rich.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have stuck with the 2-rotor. Of course I haven't been able to drive it yet with all the power, but still, I budgeted ~$10k because i'm doing it all myself (with lots of help from buddies), but it turned into more than double
Thats a nice down payment on a house...

i have my concerns about coating the UIM and IC pipes... like someone said, hit the heat source... i think i would let them dissipate heat rather than not letting the engine bay heat transfers to the coated part (my hood is vented so might make more sense for my case) anyone have done any research about it?

The heat blanket on the turbo plus the reflective stuff on the mani's is the way to go. Because what little heat the blanket or actual downpipe will let off will be reflected from the mani's by the heat shielding. That thermotec adhesive shielding on the mani's FTW.
