Talking GT40R Project!!!

Well, I finally get to make my first thread in the single turbo section. I went down to PFS yesterday to check out the progress on my single turbo kit that Ray is building for me. It is nearing completion now, just has a few little things left to do and then tune it. I snapped a few pictures i wanted to share, I will get some more once I get the car back, hopefully this upcoming weekend. =)

Lookin' pretty good Austin, glad it's coming along. Isn't that turbo a 61mm compressor? From what I've seen a lot of the FDs to come out of PFS lately have had larger 67mm setups. Did you want a more streetable setup with quicker boost response?

Sweet man, my car is going to Ray's on August 30th for the tuning of my GT40R project. Let me know how yours goes, or maybe it will still be there when I go. Is your car still there Ernie? I would love to see it too. Maybe take a few pics if you don't mind.

Dee

Nice dude, I also have a GT40R project in the works. I hope you and Dee put out some good numbers so I have something to look forward to. I don't recall what hotside Dee is using but I went with the .95 A/R. It will be interesting to see the differences in power and performance between the two.

turbodrx7: I have the 1.06 hotside as well. Is your car just now being built and you still have to put miles on it, or is he tuning it for power now? Mine is just going for a break-in tune because I have 1000cc primaries which don't want to work right.

My car is being built right now, Ray said the turbo doesnt really need to be broken in and will be tuning it for power once its up and running properly.

I don't mean the turbo, are you not going to break-in the motor? Or are you not having the motor built, and just getting the turbo kit put on?

Not rebuilding the motor at this point. If need be i will have to do that as well, but i have to wait and see once he gets the car running. Ray thinks i might have a side seal sticking but has to look into it more.

Oh, ok. Well, I hope the best for you. What fuel setup are you running? Injectors? Pump? Is your motor stock internally as far as ports go and what not?

Ports on the motor are stock, it is a mazda reman with like 15K miles on it. If i need to rebuild i will definetly be porting the motor. I am running 850cc primaries and 1600cc secondaries with a PFS pump, same thing as a nippondenso basically. What fuel set up are you running?

Hell yea, im not into having all the luxeries. My wire harness was a little crispy but i didnt have the extra money to do it right now =(. Maybe when i build my motor in the near future i will replace it.

I have no A/C or PS either. My fuel setup is a Nippondenso Supra pump with 1000cc primaries and 1600 secondaries. I wish my primaries weren't that big, but that is what came with my fuel kit. So, I hope it works well.

I'd be more than happy that he actually got the car back, finally. Hopefully everything was installed the way it should be.

Alright Austin, let us have it. What are the numbers? If you don't want to say, you can PM me. I definately would like to know though seeing as how my motor has large ports and yours are stock. Your power numbers will definately give me something to look forward to.

Heck yeah, those are nice numbers. I cannot wait to get mine tuned with my large ports and 20-25ish psi and race gas. Should net me some good numbers. Congrats Austin. How are you liking it? What size wastegate are you running? Is it open or back in the downpipe?

His motor is on stock ports and his exhaust is very restrictive. Its acutally 2.5" then goes up to 2 3/4". He needs a full 3" or 4" exhaust to take advantage of the turbo. His wastegate is the Tial 44mm.

Cool, I have a 3"downpipe/3" midpipe to an Apexi GTspec, so I should be okay there.

Thanks for replying for me Ernie, I havnt had a chance to get in the last couple of days. The car actually made 390 rwhp at 15psi. It is plenty to handle though, I am seeing 12 psi (low boost) just about at 4K rpm and when it hits it hits hard. You have a fun ride to look forward to the first time you drive your car mr2. As Ernie said i have a tial 44mm with a dump tube, no recircualtion, and it is loud as all hell. And i love it so much, lol.
