GT 35/40 (Under hood Temperatures ?)
I recently got my car running with the GT 35/40 Kit. I'm still ironing out some quarks (vacumm lines, intercooling piping). For some reason the Temperature under my hood is extremely hot. The turbo melted the plastic off of one of my wires. I have decent oil pressure so I think the turbo is getting adequate oil lubrication and the water temp is low also. I think there is just to much heat under there. Do any of you have any experience with this and can you tell me how to fix it.

If you did your installation right you shouldn't have any wires near your turbo in the first place. Possibly your ABS wire, if this is the one that got hot then you need to get some heat blankets or hose shielding for that area. Make sure you tiewrap all your vacuum hoses away from the turbo/manifold expecially your wastegate feed. The turbo is going to get extremely hot no matter what you do.

I had a very similar experience with my RX6. Melted my Profec lines, my wiring harness, all the wire covers.....everything else in the area. Even boiled the water in the windshield cleaner lines and made them spurt! In my case, the downpipe was glowing. Do you have your airpump still? If so, unplug the electrical harness on it and see if it alleviates the problem. My downpipe would immediately stop glowing once I did this. Keep in mind you need the airpump to keep your cat from clogging (and for emissions), but I figured it was a good reason to get a midpipe and it's not much trouble to swap it back to get my state sticker........

common problem..since a single turbo setup is generally higher than the stock twins that you need to move associated vacuum/boost hoses away from the downpipe and manifold... you could also put heat wrap on the hoses too

Yeah, I have some GOOD wrapping on my new wiring harness. I don't want to ever replace that again!
Also, I'm still not confident in my maps. I think it's still pig rich which is probably leaving unburnt gas which continues to burn in the downpipe. That's my theory anyway........
I found all this ironic because I had always been lead to believe that the single turbos relieve a lot of heat. In retrospect, maybe that meant INSIDE the engine, not OUTSIDE.......
