Great Single Turbo Filter Option

Hello All-

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I just purchased what looks to be a very solid filter choice for your single turbo. It is a K&N Washable Filter which has the filter open both in the front and on the sides resulting in great airflow when stationary and also when at speed. It comes fully adjustable with inserts so that it can fit any turbos with a 3, 3.5 or 4 inch opening. Lastly it came in a few different color options with a nice chrome K&N logo on top. The best part is not only does it provide great filtration, its washable, has a high airflow rating and it's only $30. About the only think on an RX-7 that is anywhere near that inexpensive-

I would highly suggest something from ITG Air Filters that are designed for REAL power.

I have that same k&n filter. Is there something wrong with using it?

Would not trust the ITG design for over 500hp with repeated high heat.

High Heat? Your filter shouldn't be on your turbo's compressor housing, it should be at a cold source in front of your radiator...

Specifically a JC60/149 is rated to 600bhp. Is yours even rated?

Also, since we're on the topic of filters, for those of you who have water injection (pre-turbo) with an oiled filter, the filter doesn't actually do it's job any more. Hmm...

That is certainly an ideal placement but so long as the material can take it and a person willing to deal with the performance drop being attached to the compressor housing should be an option.

Why does your filter have a hp rating? Its rating should include a temperature rating as well as a pressure drop vs. mass flow. A hp rating on a filter is like a hp rating on a clutch; the wrong metric.

Wut? How? So long as the injection is post-filter I don't see how it would stop the filter from doing its job.

Thanks for your input....but.....

Hmmm. From the actual ITG website...

These JC60 filters are reinforced with open pore internals. This allows the filters to be squashed down and manipulated to allow them to be fitted in spaces where there is restricted access. As they do not have a reinforced plastic cage these are not recommended for turbo applications.

These are good filters. I have one on mine simply because it was the biggest size i could find that would fit and has the inverted cone part (excuse my lack of correct terminology) which looks like it must add at least another 20% surface area. And fairly cheap. My water inj is post I/C so wasnt concerned with being able to tap the air filter.
There is ducting blowing fresh air onto the filter from below.

I have been using this filter at over 600whp 500wtq for years without issue. Looks great, tons of sizes available and no oil needed. Completely washable/reusable and again no oil. My intake is a 6" velocity stack to 4" pipe to the turbo. I am using part number CO10504B.
