Garrett T60-1 1.30 a/r power output?

Hi guys,

I have the following turbo going on my FD with the following specs:

Streetport
Garrett T60-1 turbo .70 front a/r - 1.3 rear a/r
Greddy 3-row Intercooler
Sard cooler thermostat
3" donwpipe, midpipe and rear silencer
Bosch 1600 Secondaries with Aermotive FPR
HKS BNR 33 Fuel pump
Twin Spark
HKS Iridium 10's x 4
Water Injection

What kind of power output do you think I will be looking at if running this at 17 psi? Also do you think the 1.3 rear housing will be laggy?

Thanks

I would move down in turbine a/r if you're going to run the 3" exhaust. What exhaust manifold are you running?

I beleive BUSTED7 put down 500 whp on 93 octane with that turbo. I don't think he had that big of a turbine, though.

What a/r was BUSTED7 running?

that's gonna be laggy. 4.5k+ rpms. but, you'll definitely be looking at over 400whp with a HELL of a top end. i have a .70 front/ 1.00 back with a decent SP and full spool is right around 4k for me. i consider it a little laggy, but nothing i can't deal with.

edit: consider that a few of the gt42r and bigger guys have downsized from a 1.3 to a 1.15 cause of lag. 1.3 is a big bitch for a hotside.

depends how big ya porting is Kash, remember an A/R housing of 1.3 on a T-60 is smaller then an A/R 1.3 on a GT42, I reckon you be on full boost by 4.3K let us know your results

Just an update, had the car mapped with the new turbo and boy does it move

I get positive boost from 3000 rpm, 7 psi from 3500 rpm, 15 psi at 4100 rpm and 17psi at 4400 rpm... really happy with the way it drives and the fact that it isn't laggy and pulls all the way to 8000 rpm .. just need to get it dynoed now and see what it's pushing out

Im glad your happy with it!
And im running a 62-1 with 96 ar t4 t 14 psi it made 418 h/p at 20 lbs it made 500 h/p.
About 3800 spool.

I would expect about 450 h/p and a lot of smiles.

Nice work.

that engine must flow a **** load to spin up a 1.3 so early.

once you get some dyno results post them up in the 60-1 club.

450hp would definately bring smiles to my face

The porting is a largish street port and works really well I think... On my old T04e (0.6 a/r front - 0.84 a/r rear) it used to give full boost by 3300 rpm... unfortunately the turbo ran out of puff after 6500 rpm as it was out of it's efficiency range... however the new turbo goes all the way to redline

Will post up pics and specs on the 60-1 club.

Ooops got my figures slightly wrong as I was taking them myself whilst driving lol.... Just been out for a run with my bro who was watching the boost guage and speedo and I get 15 psi around 4600 and 17psi around 4800 which still isn't too bad, the thing is it doesn't really feel laggy

'Lag' is opinion based.

Lag depends on load. What gear was your oinion based on?
One of the benefits of running that small of a turbo is the quick boost response in the lower gears which results in even quicker response between shifts.
I've personally never made any more power with a turbine housing A/R larger than .96/1.0 on a 60-1/P-trim turbo. The bigger housings only traded spool up and response for no gains in power.
In my opinion any small frame size turbo that trades of power from 3-5krpm versus the factory twins is way too laggy and normally results in a much slower car. Small frame turbo cars getting 115-122mph in the 1/4 makes you wonder why they get beat by the stock twins in most driving/racing situations.

The load was in 4th gear.... I might change the a/r at some point in the future because as you said small turbos have the benefits of spool time but at the moment I will just see how it feels on the road etc... I had a race with a 500hp Skyline last night from rolling in third through fourth and he was about a fender behind me.... tried the same from standstill and the result was the same so I'm thinking power must be good on this setup... you can really feel it from mid to top end, it just keeps going and going

I had a 60-1 with 1.0 a/r divided exhaust, the response was awesome! It was an awesome street turbo, since 60-1 is known for making good power at lower boost levels.

Check out my old dyno, running only 13.5psi tapering down to 12.5psi near redline. The area under the curve is unbelievable for a street car. The key to good power and response is exhaust porting, the intake porting probably doesn't make a huge difference, just extends the power up a little bit.
