Fuel system setup questions... (surge tank, FPR, etc)

Hello,
Im peicing together all the turbo parts for my 1985 RX-7 FB S3, that I am going to swap a S5 TII engine into.

I bought a fuel setup off another member on this site and im just making sure I have the right idea of how to hook this setup up properly. He told me he used the setup on his TII FC, the only difference is he kept the in tank pump to feed the surge tank.

The surge tank has 4 fittings, 2 an fittings on the top (both -6an) and 2 bungs in the bottom, -8an and -10an. The -8an is the return from the FPR, and the -10an is the feed. Is what I just listed all right???

Is what I have pictured here ok? Tips and advice are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

the aeromotive pump would need to feed into the fuel rail. the only thing you are missing is an intank pump to feed/prime fuel into the surge tank. without it, there would be no way for fuel to get into the surge tank. if you do a quick search, you can find numerous setups on fuel ...

The only problem is the fact that the S3 doesn't have a in tank pump. I guess I was just wondering if it was possible for the surge tank to get filled with fuel from gravity/the low pressure area created before the aeromotive pump. I dunno I may need to figure something else out with a aftermarket fuel tank...

I had a setup similar to this on my Datsun 240Z. A small electric pump around 5PSI sucked fuel out of the main tank and into a surge tank. From there, my SX pump pulled fuel out and fed it to the engine.

My main reason for doing this was fuel starvation on heavy braking and on turns.

So one of your -6 lines at the surge tank is for feed from the small pump, and the other -6 is for overflow return to the main tank.

Dan,

Here is what I did.

GSL-SE tank(baffled) -> Fuel filter -> Aeromotive a1000 -> Fuel Filter -> Y-splitter -> Both rails( Pri & Sec) ->Y-splitter -> RRFPR -> Return -> Tank

I would just spend the extra few dollars and get a baffled tank. It is really easy to swap out. And IMO a lot less ahssle then trying to setup a surge tank.

With the a1000 one thing you will notice is that it requires a .5" feel line from the low pressure side(tank to pump). I ordered the adapter kit through Jegs which is needed to adapt AN fittings to the pump. The fittings that were provided were smaller than .5". I called Aeromotive and they said that .5" was REQUIRED no ifs and or buts. I then called Jegs and they said that the kit they provided was sufficient. Conflicting stories. I just used the kit(no problems so far) and my feeling is that Aeromotive was over engineering the line size. The stock feed line on the GSL-SE tank is just under .5" and should be sufficient for what you are planning.

Hope this helps,
Z
