Fly wheel nut, no loctite ??

I helped my friend to assemble his 3rd gen engine, but I was not there when he installed the flywheel and nut. He did not loctite the nut. ?????? He says he forgot to pick it up before the assembly, but has gone without it in the past and has not had a problem. He says because he uses a 3/4 impact gun to install the nut, its on real good. I also recently rebuilt my spare engine but used a 1/2 inch gun and loctite, its stated right there in the FSM.

My question is has anyone gotten away without loctite on the flywheel nut on a high HP engine. Does he have a chance?

I don't use it on the nut but I do put sealant on the face (going to the block). Locktite is for the front bolt...

OH I would have to disagree w/that...

Flywheel nut should be torqued w/quality 3/4" drive torque wrench, 360ft./lbs. I think (I always use factory manual for this). Sealant on inside face of nut, and locktite on eccentric shaft threads. Personally, I never use an impact on my FD. Not anywhere, for anything.

If not torqued properly, it can, and most likely will not be as tight as it should.

Every little thing makes a difference.

We use loctite on the rear e-shaft threads on every engine build, as well as silicone on the backside sealing face.

A while back I tore an engine down to the short block, and was surprised to find no loctite and no silicone on the flywheel nut. The car ran fine with no problems, but it still didn't give me a good feeling about it, lol. Not sure who built the engine previously..... was a 250ish rwhp car, fairly stock.

Dude seriously why make 2 threads. You already had one in the 3rd gen section that a lot of people replied to already

Look familiar??

Good point, and the single turbo section isn't really the proper place for this anyway.
