AN Fittings References please

I was wondering if anyone had any notes on their buildups who used AN Fitting instead of certain bango bolts on the turbo kit and wastegate. I've got a 44MM Tial wastegate, and i'd like to replace the 2 bangos by 90* AN Fittings to replace the rubber/silicone hose to a braided steel line.

Do you guys have the dimensions? is it JIC or AN?
Im looking for the 2 holes on the wastegate, could is be AN-6?
And also, what size of braided hose should I use, I guess small enough for the nipples on the UIM to fit...

Aeroquip makes Banjo fitting that you can use with stainless hose.

Also you might want to use something other than stainless hose above the turbo as it will retain heat or else wrap it with some pyro sleeve or something of the sort.

go to the Tial website, look up the V44 wastegate, then click on technical drawings. It has thread sizes.

so you wouldnt recommand having SS braided lines? I would of thought that this was the best material out there as for close to exhaust vaccum hoses...

Cuz you see, thats how I blew my engine july last year, one of the hoses melted on the bango bolt nipple on the wastegate, and I don't want that to happen again beleive me.

So some DEI tape + the SS hose would be the ideal route?

Check it out same heat capacities as SS hose but shouldn't heat soak as much. Or else you can do what you said with the DEI stuff. J'en ai un rouleau de 30 pi qui s'envient il me restera p-e si tu en veux.

How to Make Your Hoses Survive

Silicone hoses have a higher temp rating (350 deg F) than braided stainless rubber (300 deg F). Braided stainless teflon is higher than both (450 deg F). In the area near the turbine housing, the temps are likely to exceed all of these numbers. Since these ratings are continuous, if you go above the rating, it doesn't mean the hose will fail right away -- but the life expectancy will be shortened. There are a lot of posts concerning this issue, and it's all because the flexible stuff isn't designed to take the extreme heat under continuous operation. Shielding it will help, but I still don't know if you'll get the temps to drop into the happy zone.

My solution was to do what the OEMs do -- use hard line near the hot zone. I used 304SS tube welded to banjo fittings for coolant, which transitions to silicone away from the turbine. I also used 304SS tube for the oil supply, but since it's even closer to the exhaust manifold, I gave it some fire sleeve. This was done not to protect the tubing, but to protect the oil inside from coking.

the key with wastegate hoses is to NEVER trust rubber/silicone line with only a ziptie to secure it, you really risk it blowing off at some point especially if you turn up the boost for race gas or methanol injection. I run stainless lines and had no problem at 21psi with heat or blowing off/leaking.

Can you post some pics of the area? Is the hose near the downpipe?
