I was looking for a hotter coil alternative. I have heard of RX8 guys using MSD LS2 coils and have read on their forum that they actually had power increases simply by switching to these coils. I would like to know if anyone has used these.....
I have what I believe to be the only Half-bridge E-85 powered Renesis RX-8 and I put down about 500whp with a Pt71GTQ at 19-21psi. The Boosted, E-85 fueled 10:1 compression is about as hard to ignite as it gets.

I had four OEM LS2 coils for ignition and suffered no break ups but recently switched to two MSD LS2 coils for the leading. So far, not a hitch. The car behaves great and has crazy spark....I don't even have an ignition box, just the signal from the Microtech...oh and 5.00ms of dwell...These coils need lots of dwell and they can handle it...they have a safety circuit that cuts them off at 8ms but they get fully charged by about 5-5.25ms.

Here is a link to the LS coils...these are not MSD ones but it talks about their spark output and dwell characteristics. MSD ones are the same, they just have more spark output and are physically larger.

I use BR8EIX for leading and BR9EIX for trailing but I am thinking of going with BR7EIX for leading to aide in cold starting.

Hope this helps,

Chris
