Exhaust manifold gasket
i thought there was a way were you could use a different manifold gasket that was one piece instead of the 2 piece design that the 3rd gen uses. also i thought that the one piece unit was cheaper than the $130x2 a piece gaskets that mazda sells. anyways if you guys could help me out that would be great.

There's no reason the 2nd gen gasket shouldn't fit. Matter of fact, I've test-fit an exhaust manifold that was designed for an FD on an FC block - as far as the flange and bolt holes, it fit fine.
The only problem might be if you were worried about emissions/EGR - the EGR hole might not line up.
That said, the '87-91 TurboII's use a heavy duty stamped stainless gasket that's REAL durable. It's about $50 or so new.
