Ebay Turbo Kit, do or dont?

I found this turbo kit on ebay and am wondering if it's worth installing. I would appreciate it if you would take a look at it and tell me what you think. Will this kit be as reliable and powerful as claimed? Any obvious drawbacks? Here is the link. Thanks.

Maybe running low boost you'd be ok. But it wouldn't be worth it. You will need larger injectors, fuel pumps, and a good tune. Its a good price for the turbo/manifold though. You'll also need a boost controller. Another thing is, the pressure is not the same as flow. Not to mention you'll want to upgrade your IC. I seriously doubt that you could bolt this on and run 15lbs of boost on the stock system for more than a few runs if that much. Another thing that is strange is just how cheap this whole kit is. Why would he sell at such a loss?

My advice is, if you are going single turbo, and this turbo is actually new as it says it is. Its a great deal for all that you are getting, it however, isn't the WHOLE kit. You WILL need a better IC (the stock one is known to pop above 15psi), larger fuel injectors (more airflow needs more gas to not lean out), then an ECU to control those injectors. Plus on stock ports Im thinking you'd find quite a bit of lag trying to get this thing boosting.

Good luck ...

You'll also need a Custom made downpipe for that application($300 or so). Read a couple of threads down from this one. I've explained how you can spend the same amount of money BUT have a Brand Name turbo instead of XS Power.

It comes with a downpipe that will bolt up. It's in the pictures, take a look. Also, why would I need a boost controller if comes with a wastegate? Couldn't I just set it to low boost ( 7lbs) until I have all of the supporting mods to handle more boost? I have big hp plans for this car, and my stock turbos are blown, so I figure I might as well upgrade to a single turbo now instead of getting another set of twins and then upgrading later.

Oops! sorry, I did'nt even look at it because I thought it was the SSautocrome ad. I say go for it! I bought my downpipe from that guy "rosendorrx7". He is very trustworthy and responds to emails. The only thing I'd double check once I got it is the strength of the welds on the manifold and grinding down the inside of the flanges on the manifold for smoothness.

I think he's just proud of it. I guess maybe it's to show that he has experience with modding FD's?

I dont know yet, and i dont plan on finding out on it. I was just gonna get it tuned for 10 psi and run around on that til i can save up.

Once you see it in person, youll realize its a pinner (small) little ****. I mean the exhaust side is huge, but the compressor looks like it came off of a mr2 turbo (ct26) i believe it is, or smaller, the turbo should better be known as a t04b rather than a S as listed. It seriously looks unproportional, im just dissappointed in looking under my hood with it.

And for my goal of 450-475 rwhp, i know this turbo would supply no where near enough flow.

I bet it will hit full boost alot later then most turbos, then run out of breathe real quick after that.

So im saving my pennies til i can get a to4r or af61, and for now im just gonna run the turbo for my break in period on the motor. but once its fully broken in, ill hopefully have enough money to upgrade.

BTW read the guys description, sounds like complete BS, sounds like he knew absolutely nothing about rx7s. And WTF thats why he has a v8 with a blower now which looks ****** ridicoulous cause he knows absolutely **** about rotaries.

"well let me start ,for those of you who love the power of the twins but hate the "unreliability" of the rats nest under the hood (solionds-vaccum holes-etc. ) that seems to give everyone boost problems every weekend . the answer is to go with a "single turbo" ,which eliminates all boost problems ,no more times where you don't know if you will have full boost like the twins, due to one of the fifteen solionds that dont kick in . plus no more trips to the mazda dealership which charges sixty five dollars a hour, well here in Texas they do anyway ,which cost me about 600-700+ hundred dollars everytime i took mine in ,which was almost every month. it just got to expensive for me taking to the dealer almost everymonth as no regular shop in town would touch my rx7 (3rd gen). well this turbo spools up fast at about 2900rpm's almost as fast as the twins but with "much more Power" (psi), your stock factory boost setup runs about 8-10psi, this kit is well capable of 25psi and still be reliable. but as always be very carefull when you run more then 16psi as you can damaged any rotory thats is not setup to handle that kind of boost ."

sounds like hes trying really hard to sell this **** to some sorry soul for as much money as possible.

not to mention there are like 15 typos in that one paragraph. He took in his fd once a month? haha, twins give people problems everyweekend? HAHA this guy is funny

PhatManBUD, did you buy this same turbo kit off this guy? How do you know that the turbo is small?

no i bought the xs-power one which is the same one as this guys trying to sell.

I know the turbo is small because ive seen turbos, and this one is a blow dryer in comparison to a real to4s.

pictures really cant justify how small it looks in person because you have nothing to compare it too. i guess its more similar to a to4b?

When i upgrade to a t04r or af61 I really wanna take the turbo and put a smalll hotside on it then slap it on my toyota tercel where i see it fitting alot better

here are some pix of it installed, see what i mean, looks as big as the alternator...and like i said, look at how big the hotside is vs the compressor side. I dont know if it matters or what this means, but to me to have a hotside bigger then the compressor side, it yells SOMETHINGS NOT RIGHT!

I really do want to get it tuned and dyno'd to maybe 10-12 psi, see how much power it puts out as a guinea pig, for any future reference since i already have it in the car. That way if its worth anything to anyone looking to make a little hp they can see how it performs, as far as spool time and max hp.

Knowing him personally, DON'T GET THE KIT. If you dig through his recent auctions, you can tell how much the kit cost him. The only thing not purchased from ebay would be the downpipe, which is most likely spraypainted silver.

This is the Size of this turbo

"A Garrett TO4e .60 trim turbo with .50 ar compressor and .96 on exhaust. Exhaust wheel is a P trim. V band. Would be perfect for a stock turbo II motor. Has about 5K miles on rebuild from majestic. Very slight endplay. I was going to use this setup in my rx7, but need a larger one. Can make 400 hp at 1 bar. Please feel free to email me with any other parts needs or questions as I have lots of Turbo engine parts."

And he payed 132.xx for the turbo + shipping
