To dowel or not to dowel

When does it become necessary to put in extra dowels?

i am going single with a GT35R and a streetport with all the supporting mods. hoping for 400-450rwhp.

the car will be used for street and track use mainly with the occasional drag or two.

^^i disagree
isnt dowel pinning necessary if making more then 250bhp per rotor.
it definetly isnt gonna hurt to pin your motor with the numbers you are after
i am putting down similar numbers and opted to getter pinned

unless your going for 700+ it's un neccessary IMO. and even then you can do without, but it's a little extra security haha.

if the car is not tuned properly it will still break. i've seen pinned engines break before. if a plate doesn't crack you will flatten springs or break seals depending on which apex seals you use. just my 2 cents

This is more to my point... You really don't need to have them done for YOUR goals. And the fact that I've seen a ton of places that "dowel pin" motors but end up screwing them up them up during the process, is just another reason to leave well enough alone.....

exactly. i do mine on a cnc machine and even then only add two extra dowel points.. so a total of 4 extra dowells in the block. BUT this alone does nothing without clearancing and balancing; and then ofcourse PROPER FUEL AND TUNING! haha

I've seen many 13b's do well over 600hp without it and never have a single problem.

exactly... the thing i recommend over anything else is clearancing the rotors and balancing the rotating assembly.

Ah! of course, I thought you were talking about cutting material off of the rotors or something...

Just to beat the dead horse, absolutely no reason to dowel pin the OPs motor with that setup.
