Well the wait is almost over for me and Im getting ready to spend the fat wad of cash to go single turbo. Ive been doing some research and looking around for quite some time, and have decided on the turbo Im going to get. There are a few companies out there that sell the kit I want...they all have the same exact turbo, hardware, and piping. What I cant figure out is why "Company A and Company B" want $3500 and "Company C" wants $2500 for the same exact kit. Does "Company C" just have a really good deal or is there a reason why they are charging alot less than the other two companies? Id like to figure this out because I am a firm believer in buying quality products but if I can save some money at the same time then sweet!

 

What kit is it you're looking at and do you have links to the same kit/different price sites? It's probably the manifold. If you go with a company like A-spec (Company A) or turblown Company B), you're getting a custom manifold that has a warranty on it, which will raise the price (but worth it IMO). Where company C may offer the same kit but with an eBay similiar manifold that will crack, warp, and do more harm than good.

 

We differentiate our turbo kits in several ways;

A) We will build to your specs; maybe you want your wastegate rerouted into the downpipe, maybe you want a 4" exhaust, maybe you want twin waste-gate, etc

B) Standard size downpipe is 3.5"= faster spool & more power over 3"

C) Hard-lined coolant lines instead of SS rubber braided hose. Hard lines not only look good, but they last forever. Rubber hose is good to 300deg F, and its within inches of a 1600deg F turbine housing. OEM companies use hard lines.

D) Customer service, we answer our phones and emails, and offer tech support.

I was differentiating the price between Rotary Extreme's T04Z kit vs Rx7store's TO4Z kit. They both look like really decent kits.

 

I'm not sure if they've changed it, but I personally am not a big fan of the manifolds that the rx7store.net turbo kits use. It's like an SS Autochrome, OBX-R or equivalent manifold. I've had 3 crack and warp on me in less than 2 months. I'm not to sure on what manifolds Rotary Extreme use, but that may be a big part of the price difference. You can buy the SSautochrome manifold from eBay all day for less than $150 shipped but a good quality manifold from a reputable builder that will stand behind their work is going to cost you $700-$900.

In my opinion, I'd most likely go with a kit from Turblown.net if I was buying a complete turbo kit and not piecing one together. Their manifolds are pretty awesome.

 

We use a higher quality manifold now which costs more. Switched probably a year ago. It did raise the price on our kits a little.

Main difference in turbo kits are the manifolds. I have a company that makes them in bulk for me overseas where as others make them in house per order which is more money. Other than that most of the other parts are the same including turbos and wastegates. Both Turblown and A-Spec make a nice kit. It really depends on your budget.

 

Thanks for clarifying! That's good to know! Glad you went with a different manifold. I know there's people that have success with them, I just have personally never seen one of those manifolds hold up. Then after that 3rd one I tried warped, I was done with them.
