changing air intake
changing air intake
the intake i have on the car when i bought it is all dry rotted and has seen a better day, but my main question is that the MAF is so large what can be done to make this set up easier for me to work around, i need some visual pictures if possible since im not so car savy, but i want to change my turbo out for a S5 turbo and get a new intake on it so please inform me of how to do it. i am open to information since i know very little of what to do. thank you.

vibrant performance has all your parts to do this.
I have an HKS 3"aluminum MAF adapter for sale. vibrant has generic adapters, not sure if they have our specific size.

If you want to build a custom "cold air intake", then the type will depend on your AFM:
S4 AFM - needs an adapter to match a round pipe to the square AFM inlet. The commercial adapters are usually either 2.5" or 3". Example: http://rx7cz.net/shop/
S5 AFM - already has a 2.5" round inlet, so you just need to make your intake attach to this.
Standalone EMS with no AFM - Intake attaches directly to the turbo. A cheap and easy method is to simply attach the filter directly to the turbo, although this makes it rather difficult to keep hot air from getting sucked into the engine.
Do not position the AFM in a tilted position like the picture in the previous post as this will cause hesitation problems. The AFM works best when level and facing forward with either the top side up as per stock or top side down.
As for the S5 turbo, are you aware that you can get your S4 turbo upgraded for cheap? The S5 conversion is kinda a pain, while the S4 upgrade bolts right on. Also, the turbo is rebuilt during the upgrade, so it comes with a warranty. Of course you would need appropriate fuel system upgrades when producing more power, but that is regardless of the turbo choice.

the Air intake was what is dry rotted, thats no biggy i can buy a new one, i am wondering what i can do with that huge MAF sensor, it is unreal big is there anything smaller i can use or can i do with out it, and if so what needs to be done to eliminate the sensor error i kinda want a clean engine bay, so no fire walls like the pic with the red intake hose, i kinda want it straight out but getting cold air. also I was not aware of the mod you can do to the s4 turbo that is probably the most amazing news ive heard since ive been reading on this forum man you have any other hints or suggestions?
