Changing Air filter

Hey guys... I'm a UK RX7 owner its a 93 Type R with a greddy T88-33d turbo, plus all suporting mods.

I recently had the engine rebuilt, with a large street port for good measure. Now the garage where i had this done, got rid of my old air filter (it had seen alot better days) and replaced it with a metal one ( as seen in pic below)

(i know its not the tidiest looking engine bay in the world lol)

As a temporary measure so i could drive the car to run in it. Now its been run in and mapped to 1BAR and is producing 368.4WHP. Now i have been told this air filter is restricting the flow quite a bit and is therefore restricting the power that can be produced.

As the rotary scene in the US is alot bigger than over in the Uk i thought i would ask advice from you guys, as i've received a mixed response over here.

Will changing the air filter to a bigger, better flowing model make alot of difference to the actual amount of BHP that can be produced (obviously it will need a re-map) and if so what model should i go for?? I was thinking one of the HKS mushroom filters, but was told to go for something bigger so can you guys recommend anything, as would really like to try and see over 400WHP if possible..

(if you need a full list of mods for a better insight, let me know and i'll post a full list up)

Cheers for al your help in advance

A flter with a reverse cone on the end will help flow a little more.

Unfortuantely, their redesigned site currenly does not show pictures of each product.

Suggestions:
(1) get rid of the AST.
(2) move the battery to the rear storage compartment.
(3) GB is a lot cooler than Houston Texas USA, you do not need to thermal wrap the hoses in the front of the engine.
(4) get a real radiator to replace that stock Mazda POS.

So do i need to upgrade anything else or fit any mods to be able to get rid of the AST...??

Batt relocation is on the cards.... See what you mean about the thermal wrap is looking very tatty.. May just remove it may help it look a little tidier. Would like a nice big alloy rad (thinking about a pwr one) but funds just won't permit at mo... be nice to get some more advice over what i could do to improve performance from you guys, you certainly know your stuff

To remove the AST, you install the 86-88 Cap Assembly w/overflow tube,

http://www.mazdatrix.com/b8.htm and cap the then unused hose nipples.
