Carbon build up clean up!

My turbine housing is a little carboned up from an oil control ring failure and i was thinking that i should clean the housing before running the turbo on the car again. i can hear a slight rubbing noise as i spin the compressor wheel and when the turbo was first removed from the car, oily scale was falling out of the exhaust outlet.

My question is this, do i need to remove the turbine housing to do so or can i just soak the turbo in something without causing damage to the seals? Also what do u recommend for the clean up... brake clean possibly?

Take it apart. Zep industrial strength degreaser works great for carbon. Just don't soak aluminum in it. You can find it at home depot. Wear gloves, it irritates the skin.
