Carbon build up clean up!
My turbine housing is a little carboned up from an oil control ring failure and i was thinking that i should clean the housing before running the turbo on the car again. i can hear a slight rubbing noise as i spin the compressor wheel and when the turbo was first removed from the car, oily scale was falling out of the exhaust outlet.
My question is this, do i need to remove the turbine housing to do so or can i just soak the turbo in something without causing damage to the seals? Also what do u recommend for the clean up... brake clean possibly? |
Take it apart. Zep industrial strength degreaser works great for carbon. Just don't soak aluminum in it. You can find it at home depot. Wear gloves, it irritates the skin.
