can I make it 15 miles with bad turbo?
I have to take my car over to groundzero today to get the new turbo installed. Problem is the only way I have to get it there is to drive it!
The turbo is screwed, it leakes oil from center section and black smoke is coming out of the exhaust. to me it is noticeable but the car is not going through much oil. I am still showing the oil level as being full when I check it.
What do you guys think? Would you chance the drive? -- I am kind of in a pickle.

yeah that is what I am thinking. I am definitely going to baby the car, as far as I can tell it is merely an oil leak. I am 99.9% sure the impeller is still intact and in good shape.

Take off the IC coupler that comes off ur turbo and just run it N/A incase anything happens it wont go back to ur engine... haha i dunno if its a good idea. any thots on this?
when i was floorin my car my IC coupler popped off. And the car was pretty much N/A for like a mile. I just didnt get into the higher RPM range cause i was scared the fuel would just dump in when theres no boost and possibly flooding it out.
Our cars dont use MAF sensor so it doesnt affect us when an IC coupler splits like it would a MR2 or EVO8, other then boost leak that is

I agree with what PhatManBud said, becasue that has happened to me. But when this happened the turbos were working their brains out. They we constantly trying to hit the target boost range and could not. So you may damage your turbo, but hell you're not worried about that.
I would still tow it.

hes gettin a new one installed today anyways.
Here...drive ur car to a closer muffler shop. have them take off the manifold and turbo and weld up some custom headers to make it run N/A. Put an intake on the end of the IC piping that u took the turbo off of. That way your car will be officially be N/A then take the manifold and drive ur car over to the turbo shop. and have them bolt the new turbo to the manifold then switch out ur headers to the new turbo w/manifold. Thats a great way to simply ur problem! no towing involved!

That seems like a bit of work/cash to me, I would still tow it.
Do you have AAA, they will tow it to a shop for free (one direction). Otherwise a tow is not that expensive.

well, good news and bad news, I got the damn car to groundzero. Bad news is it smoked so frickin much I got pulled over because the cop thought I had an engine fire.
It was kind of comical-- people would get behind me and get pissed that I was only going 40mph in a 60 mph zone. And all of a sudden I could see them fanning their face because of the burnt oil plume my car was putting out. They acted like I was doing it on purpose -- I even got flipped off!

It will all be worth it though, I got to see my glorious new turbo. It is frickin huuuge...!
seriously though, I think I may need to get another fuel pump to support the air flow that will be coming out of this "widow maker."
PT66 whoot whoot!!!

that is a very good question....! I will be over at grondzero when they tune it and I am sure ralph will get it dialed for a conservative number on pump gas. i am shooting for 450rwhp!
The hotside is either .81 or .96- but I don't recall which ralph ordered. Damn it, I should have checked! But when you have the type of day that I have had one tends to forget some of the details.

yeah, that damn turbo only lasted 2800 miles, roughly a couple of months.
Here is and update since tuesday, I got a call from ralph and he said they got the new turbo in the car without too much trouble... apparently it was a pretty tight fit. He is convinced this thing is going to rip, I am getting very excited to find out how much!

When you get your car back, you'll have a permanent smile for weeks. Your cheeks will hurt from smiling so much and you'll have to change you underwear a few times.
Enjoy.
