Question Building 400+ HP FD

I am new to the FD scene but no stranger to turbo systems. I just picked up my first 1993 Red FD with 68k miles on it and she is pretty clean. I bought it knowing it has a boost problem for $9k. So I basically want to pull the motor. . and build from the oil pan up a wicked setup like Pluto has. . haha

I have read and read and read on the forums here with little proof as far as numbers goes as to what I should look at to make my 400HP goal next spring.

By next spring I would love to have a FD with right around 400 but eventually I would like to have it up and over 500HP if possible on race gas.

My friend has a street ported GT35R single that puts down 350RWHP. . .That is great and all but I would still like to leave the door open to the 500+ HP ranges in the future.

Can anyone give a few suggestions or perhaps other places I can look into better built motors. . .etc. . .

Keep reading, ecspecially in the single forum, thats the best advice you are going to get.

There are many turbos that can make 400 rwhp. A T78 sounds like a good choice for 400 low and 500 high, but you should read up and make your own decision.

Its hard to be decisive when its sort of unknown territory and is sorta going to be experimental for me. . .

I do however have and offer from a friend of mine to buy his Turbo that he uses on his Mustang that runs low 10s maybe high 9s now. . .Its an on center housing .96 AR p trim .60 compressor. . . .I know its set up for a 5L displacment but curious what your guys' thoughts were on the possibilities with that setup. My friend can custom build a turbo manifold for it. . he is a god with the tig. . haha

How big is the compressor wheel? A .60 compressor just means that its a T04E compressor housing, what matters is the mm's of the compressor wheel itself. There are so many different sized wheels that can fit in a T04E housing its crazy. A .96 is a typical hotside A/R that us rotary guys use dependant on spool up and what turbo it is. Its all in what you want with the car. I currently made 380whp on a small HKS T04E with has a 57mm compressor wheel with a .84 hotside A/R which I love on the street. Id say go with a PT67 or T04R to break 400s and have an open window for 500 on race gas.

I wanted the exact same thing. I wanted to produce 400hp on low boost(below 14psi) and then later when I got used to the hp bump up to higher boost(17psi still on pump) and be right around 500hp.

It took me forever to look into turbos and since have finally decided on a turbo. I went to DaVinci Motorsports and picked up their AF61. I made the order today and have to say that the people there are extremely nice and very accomodating. Not sure about construction/ shipping etc since I have not experienced their service/work, but if their work is as good as their customer service I am sure that I will not be dissapointed.

I will stop ranting now since we all know that Lupe is getting commisions for his promoting this turbo...j/k

There is a thread on single section that has a few dyno charts check it out.

Only if DaVinci came out with the af61 6 month ago? Now I'll just wait to see what a gt40 is capable of?

For convo sake what is the af61?
Kinda like Gothem's turbo or RX7.com turbo? Aspec turbo?
These are resellers of turbos that are made by major manufacturer why all the code names?
Well at least Sean says straight up its a 35/40GT. I assume its about getting your store sale with a good tune and them posting numbers that the store says is theirs.
I would enjoy knowing that good numbers are produced by certain spec/size turbo rather than a resale model name.it leaves you wondering what is the performance perameters.
Different wheels can be orderd all the time so unless the motor is massive bridge or semiPP i cant imagine that even a GT40 would different then 82,88.Q,P.
Feeling blind and ignorant......
