Borg Warner s300 83-75

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on purchasing the borg warner s300 83-75 (1.00 A/R) since I had great recommendations on them. I currently have a stock portted FD with this list of mods that would go with the single turbo.

1. Power FC

2. Auto bahn M-Spec intercooler kit ( front mount)

3. Greddy profec B spec 2

I plan on purchasing a ttSupra fuel pump, and upgraded drop-in injectors using the stock fuel rail

My question is:

How much psi should I run with this set up, to have a reliable 350-400rwhp with the stock port engine?

Any recommendation on the set up would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Charlie

Charlie, even though you hear its a great turbo I think it would be unwise for you to use it. I'm pretty sure everyone will also agree with me to given the fact that you're looking for power in the network of 350-400 whp.

This turbo will have more lag than the turbo that would be best for your setup. Normally, a turbo like this would be reserved for someone looking for 600+ whp.

Why add lag to your system and not really optimize this turbo's strengths? If you're looking for 350-400 on 15psi pump fuel stick with a 35r or a BW s362/s366. I'm sure you'll be much happier with the car.

That's a big turbo for 350-400whp, while you could say you'll have room to grow with it even still there are better options with room to grow.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the s300sx 83-75 has an inducer of 60mm, and exducer of 83mm, while the s362 has an inducer of 62mm exducer of 80.6, s366 66mm inducer, which all seem more laggy than the s300sx 83-75. Since larger inducer = more airflow in and smaller exducer = less airflow out wouldn't there not be more lag in the turbos mentioned above? If you calculate the trim for the s300sx (60mm/83mm)^2*100= 52.26 mm trim and for the s362 (62/80.6)^2 *100= 59.17 mm trim

i run a TO4E with 1.00 hotside and spool mad fast...maybe the turbo he mentioned has extreamly good spool time as well...I really havent used that one so i am not too sure my self
but i do know even when i used a HX55 Holset the spool time was still rather quick even though it started at 3000 lol
and was very smooth in its climb up...
unlike my garret which just goes nuts as i get on it..LOL

Yes you are wrong. The 75 83 as you are refering to it would be a 75mm comp inducer with an 83mm turbine wheel.

No, he is correct. Hes talking about the 83-75, which is a reference to the 83mm compressor exducer, 75mm turbine wheel, aka the S360. He asked me about the 83-75 and I knew exactly what he was talking about.

I think you're slightly confused. ANYTIME you're talking Borg Warner turbos with a full name (not just the generic s300 or s400 series name) you're actually talking directly about the compressor wheel INDUCER. A S366 has the 66.1mm compressor inducer. The S375 has the 74mm compressor inducer. The BRAND new models have the 83mm turbine wheel, with the possibly to upgrade to the 87mm wheel (extra cash).

Arguing with Sean about rotary turbo sizing is like arguing with Tiger Woods about golf.... or cheating

I know exactly what turbo hes talking about, he even posted the sizes and it matches what I had in mind. For example, the 88-75 is a reference to an 88mm compressor exducer(63mm inducer) and 75mm turbine wheel. The 91-79 is a 91mm compressor exducer(66mm inducer) and 79mm turbine wheel.

For quite some time BW has used an 83mm turbine wheel. Its BW who chooses to use a smaller 76 or 79mm wheel with a 72-74mm compressor, which is a huge mismatch.

He misunderstood what size the turbo really was.

I re-read this whole short thread and realized that the confusion what that Dgregg and myself are just use to talking about these turbos from another standpoint. I originally thought you posted 83 75, meaning 83mm turbine wheel exducer and 75mm compressor wheel inducer. It's all good we all make mistakes. I'm not sour about anything Just next time throw me a bone with those numbers before we start jumping to conclusions

No worries.

I know an engineer for BW and he references them in the 83-75, 88-75, etc... fashion. Apparently its the official way. Not the easiest way for most people, but Im fortunate to remember this stuff no problem.

Edit: I should have added, a giveaway that 83mm wasnt a reference to the turbine wheel, the S400SX uses the 83mm wheel, not the S300SX.

Yup ScorpionT is right. The S366 is actually the 91-79 turbo [91 being the compressor exducer(major) and 79 turbine inducer]. I went to my friends shop the other day(official Borg, KKK, Holset, etc dealer) and showed me this turbo. It's a S300 series with a ~62-63mm compressor inducer and a ~68mm turbine exducer. It's actually a John Deere turbo with a T4 divided 1.00 and he's going to put a different compressor housing on it from a Catepillar(better casting and more flow). I'm only looking for about 450hp. Scorpion, on the S series there in the US, is the turbine wheel cut-back? Because this one isn't. Thanks

Do you mean clipped or swept back?

Hmm, like the one in the last picture. I didn't know there were those 2options, clipped and swept back. The turbo guy had this shaft but it wasn't available(he didn't have it) for the S363 turbo that I want. What's the difference between the cut back and swept?

Well, technically all of their S300 wheels are clipped. Swept back is just a reference to the design of the wheel, which some have more than others.

What was it about the shaft/wheel for the S363 you wanted?
