Boost problems! How do I test my BOV to see if it is leaking?

Well guys, I have been having some crazy boost fluctuation problems. I thought it may have had to do with the placement of my boost controller vacuum line, so i moved it from right off the turbo to the upper intake manifold. It didnt fix the problem. My boost has been fluctuating like mad. I hit 28 psi and it immediately drops down to around 20 and fluctuates between 20 and 25 psi. I have also noticed that when my BOV sounds, it gives off a different tone then it used to. I have a greddy type R bov and it used to sound like a bottle rocket taking off, but now it has a much more harsh clasp sound. So this all leads me to believe that my bov is malfunctioning. Does anyone have any clue on how i can test this without purchasing a new bov just to test it? Also, if anybody else has any idea what could cause something like this?

Adam

Thought i might add that this is on a t78 turbo.

My BOV was not working so I soakes it in 3 in 1 oil and it fixed the problem. There must have been something getting caught. If that doesn't work do a pressure test and spray soapy watter on the BOV and see if it bubbles.

I had a boost oscillation problem too. The problem was solved by switching to a different boost controller. Initially I had assumed it was a leak somewhere. I tested the BOV by removing the IC pipe and blocking both ends of the pipe. Then I pressurized the pipe and applied a soapy mixture to the BOV to check for leaks. You need to be extremely careful when pressurizing the pipe.

thanks guys, I will have to check it out. I may have to try out a manual boost controller to see if that helps. I hope its not the boost controller.
