boost-guard wastegate w/ stock TII turbo?

Good day all. I'm in the planning stages of a project to turbocharge the street-port 13B NA engine in my '84 GSL.

The plan is to custom fab an exhaust manifold and intake plumbing (with the stock NA intake manifold), and to use a TII turbo and intercooler. Engine management will be MegaSquirt, and the goal is a moderate setup at 7-8psi making 210-230 hp at the wheels. (Currently putting about 155 hp to the ground in NA tune)

I know that the TII turbos have an internal wastegate that is undersized and prone to boost creep when the exhaust system is made less restrictive, so I'm looking for a cheap but hopefully effective wastegate.

I've got access to a Boost-Guard unit that's mine for the taking. It's small - I think that the port size is 34 mm. I've hunted around and the only thing I can find on the web that refers to these wastegates is motorcycle applications. Can anyone say definitively if this thing is worth considering for this application?

One thing I was thinking is that if it's smallish for this application - what about using it in parallel with the TII unit's internal wastegate?

Thanks for any insight or advice,
Phil.
