Anyone here using the RX7store stage 5 turbo kit ??

Im thinking of purchacing that kit for my next rx7 and i wanted to know how good is that turbo setup is for drag racing. How is the TO4S spooling characteristics compared to the T78, how much Rwhp is it capable of?? Does it spool faster than the T78??

Thanks in advance,
chad

spools quicker than the T-78 and provides the same top end power.

I made a little picture here to try to decide which turbo I wanted....

I superimposed several different dyno graphs from DIFFERENT RX-7s to see the characteristics of each setup.

I want to stress that these are DIFFERENT cars with many variables from dyno to dyno such as:

boost level
other mods (porting, intercoolers, exhausts, etc)
temperature conditions

I did this to get a ROUGH idea of what to expect, don't hold me to these numbers. In the case of the Steve Kan dyno, I wasn't sure how much boost he was running or even if it IS in fact a T62-1 turbo. I was guessing on that.

Here are the cars I graphed:

T04E - 14 PSI Ported
T04E - XS Eng 13 PSI (Not Ported?)
T04S - XS Eng 16 PSI Ported
T78 - Rotary Performance Car 17 PSI
T62-1 ?? - Steve Kan Dyno unknown boost or even if it is a T62-1 for sure.

Maybe this will help you evaluate your needs?

Brian

Looks like you have to get past 5krpms before the other turbos pass the T04e ones.

Glad I got the T04E.

Ken,

Yeah.. the E looks really solid for a street car. I almost got that one, but went for the S since mine is purely a weekend car. I've only put about 3000 miles on it in like 2 and a half years. Even with the stock twins, I almost always had at least 4000 rpm all the time, so I went with S.

If I had my car as a daily driver, I would have gone "E" for sure.

When I eventually get my car all broken in and tuned, I'll be posting more feedback about the S on the forums...

Regards,
Brian

damn...that T-78 is laggin!

out of all of them, i like the graph for the T04S the best. good response, amazing top end, and $600 cheaper than the T-78. the T04S cant be beat!

Joe D-I thought the TO4S was way bigger than the T78, yet it spooled up quicker and made way more power on that dyno chart? That T78 looks laggy as hell but you hardly feel it(about 2 seconds to start spooling when driving normally) i cant imagine the TO4S .

Wargasm-Thankyou brian for the dyno chart, it was very helpful. The to4e does look like the best all around street/strip turbo. I think i know which turbo i should have went with now, the to4s .

Thanks again,
chad

Here's a picture of the engine with the turbo installed... I haven't 100% finished, as you can see, but you get the basic idea...

Lightbulb turbos

Forget money 4 a min. Out of any turbo i guess the t04s is the best choice for a gen 3 fd, to run 400+rwhp?

I need to know now rather than later.

Thanks!

T78 is going to lag a little but i think i will be happy with it. porting has alot to do with how much lag the turbo has. i have very nice large ports so i should see a little less lag than a stock engine car. whenever my car runs and i break it in and dyno. i'll post my dyno sheets

Wargasm,

That superimposed dyno graph is very informative. Is it possible to add the plot of Apexi RX6 for comparison?

If anyone has a dyno of the apex kit turbo, just post it in here, or email it to me at "rx7@zeroglabs.com" and I'll add it no problem. Please include any info you know about the car like who it belongs to and what mods are done. Porting? Boost? I assume that ANY car that has a single turbo has intake/exhaust mods...

I will keep everyone up to speed... The car might run as soon as tomorrow if I'm not too hung over. But it will take weeks to break it in and tune it at the minimum.
