Best BOV for single turbo

Due to the noise and the "look at me" factor, I was going to replace my BOV with something else. I am currently running a HKS SS. However, I was told by X S Engineering and others, the HKS SS is one of the best. They have had lots of good experience with this BOV.
Therefore, what I have heard and the performance, the HKS SS seems to be the best. It works flawlessly. I do like the look of the TIAL though and it is quieter. I am going to keep the HKS due to the performance however.
just my .02

I have heard from a couple people that HKS SS doesn't do very well under really high boost like 20psi and over, and the Greddy Type-R is the best for that. But since your not going to run over 18psi the HKS will do fine.

I have a TiAL and it works well for me without being too loud (though you can definitely hear it). It kind of sounds like someone hitting a golf ball with more air rushing noise after the hit -- whoo-PSSSHH.
Chris at http://www.xtecheng.com has good prices on them, though I actually got mine at Extreme Motorsports (who also has a decent price, but not as good as xtech).

HKS SS is a leak prone piece of crap! The HKS C-clip retained BOV's are notorious for leaking! Now the HKS non SS racing BOV is good to go! I personally use a Greddy Type R.

NO BLOW-OFF VALVE... 90% of the cars here don't even use them. You know that 3 stooges sound wha wha wha, thats the sound you get with no blow off valve. As for the bad *** 7's you see racing in Japan, they run a wastegate exhaust, and it gives it this bad *** RUPPPPPPPPPPPP!!

I know a lot of people here don't like the Apexi Twin Chamber (that it leaks), but I just installed my XS single turbo kit & with the Apexi that comes with it. I totally love the sound it makes, while not being too loud. Like a ch-ch-ch-ch-ch... sound.

i plan on either using it (for fun factor) or the TiAL
right now im just running the stock bov since im non sequential and running lower boost levels

I personally use the Greddy Type R.
The Greddy Type S makes a stupid whistling sound.
The Blitz Bov seems to leak after .8 boost.
The A'Pexi BOV works well, but if you go big single, it may not vent enough charged air(A'Pexi X 2 would work however)

Turbo Xcess Type H BOV is a loud whoosh sound. You can vary the spring pressure with shims that come with the BOV kit. It will come with aluminum and mild steel adapters for the BOV.
Greddy Type S valves sound boring, but it's not as loud as the Turbo Xcess Type H valve.
Easily adjustable with a top mount screw and locking nut.
Blow-off valve is to protect the compressor on the turbo from surge. When you have compressor surge, you'll hear a fluttering sound as you let off on throttle when you're on boost.
Wastegate is exactly what the name is about. It's a gate that wastes energy made by the exhaust gases by bypassing the turbine wheel on the turbo. It is the gate that is used for boost controllers, by controlling the fluctuating of the spring (various ratings, ie 10 psi spring, 7 psi spring, etc). For a 10 psi spring in a wastegate and the port on top of the diaphragm is open vented to air, the wastegate will open up around 10psi and vent the exhaust gas out of the dump port.
If you were to use a block off plate instead of a wastegate, you would boost until your turbo and/or engine blew since there is no way to bypass the turbine wheel (which makes the power in turbochargers).
WIth all that being said, the two valves (BOV and wastegate) are NOT the same thing.
I doubt anybody who actually cares about their turbo would NOT use a blow-off valve. True that most aftermarket BOV are geared for looks and sound, but it does serve a protective function for the compressor wheel.

Also anyone can read a book on turbos and turbocharger cars. BUT has anyone ever compared
the 2 one with a BOV and One without? NOT I didnt think so, but some of these kids here do, with this 90% of the shops agree that truly you dont need a BOV to make your turbo or engine last any longer..
