avg mi on single turbo engines
I was wondering how many mi does the avg single turbo streetport get before it destructs. Can you get 30 to 40 k mi out of them?Any imput on this would be helpful.I dont have any real data but it seems that going to a single turbo causes a boat load of problems, and blown engines with low mi on them seem to be the norm. I see a bunch of single turbos up for sale with $$$ invsested . Are they everyday drivers car? Any imput would be helpful,

Single turbos don't cause the engines to blow, tuning does.. or a bad batch of gas. Since I have gone single the car is more reliable, easier to maintain, runs cooler in equal conditions, and is of course fun to drive. A single turbo streetport can last a long time, definitely more than 30-40k miles depending on what it is used for and how hard/often it is abused.. just like any other motor. It is really all in the tuning.

A lot of the reasons for blown engines with single turbos is tuning - with the twins, remapped ECUs and even the bse maps for the Power FC are set for the twins, they just need some fine tuning, but with single turbos, the maps need to be totally retuned. And a lot of times this falls into the hands of someone unexperienced or doesn't have the knack for tuning. With GOOD tuning, a 400 rwhp rotary should see atleast 50K-60K miles, especially if the engine is built right. Coolant and oil porting also helps. the stock coolant seals usually always fail and should be replaced with silicone. People do dumb things with RX7s (launch with 1/8-1/4 tank causing the gas to flow to the back of the tank that can cause a lean condition and detonation, etc.) Engines using the twins seem to last longer than single turbo engines but alot has to do with tuning.
