oh and btw, you know that the trick thing about the AX series is that they are abraided turbos. This means that the compressor housing is made with a material that is worn away to a perfect fit when the compressor is first spun up. They can make the tolerances much closer, 0 actually and let the wheel polish itself in for the least needed clearance. This means no blow by and if the compressor ever wobbles or gets a little play, it just machines itself a new path maintaining the closest possible fit throughout the life of the turbo.

That sounds nice, I wonder why more companies don't use the abraided technology. That sounds like it would be the ticket. That also might explain why the Apex'i turbos are more expensive. But hey, gotta pay to play right. Racer1, I'm very excited to hear about this turbo once you get it up and running. Please keep us all tuned.

It's not available to the "public", but if you're a dealer, you can get it...what a bunch of crap!

I know an Apex'i dealer if anyone wants one that bad. Just PM me and I'll set you up with him. He's a really good guy and runs a FIRST RATE business.

Apexi needs about 1-2 months to deliver it. And they told us once it is ordered from IHI the order cannot be canceled.

Abraidable compressor housings are the shiznit! But, unlike what was said earlier, as the turbo wears out and wobbles the tolerances get WORSE, not maintained. Chances are the looser tolerances still will be tighter then a standard non abraidable turbo, and a plus would be if it ever got really bad, your compressor wheel wont grind itself to death, but who runs a turbo to that point anyway? I'm pretty sure that the 96-99 FD3s had abraidable twins. Seen it in a MAZDA rotary history book when my buddy was buying a Rx8 at the dealer.

Mike, thanks for the info. That would explain the huge price difference between the '93-'98 turbos and the '99-'02 twins. Now I just have to wait and see how the person that ordered the Apex'i unit likes it once it arrives. Everybody keep your fingers crossed. This might be a killer find!!

I can't wait to see the price. But at the same time, I don't think that I want to see the price. I have a bad feeling that it's going to be ungodly high. Gotta pay to play though!

hahha yea the price is going to be insane. Apexi has raised their prices on their turbo kits and pretty much priced themselves right out of the market. Plus when you send an apex seal thru one you have to buy a whole new turbo since no one in the states can repair them.

What makes them so impossible to service? Just unavailability of parts?

Its the availability of parts for the turbo.
