Apexi AX7582 Turbo Kit.

Ok ppl. After a lot of search i was impressed that i didn't find anybody using this state of the art turbo. Although many ppl are using the RX6 which actually is only $400 if i am not mistaken cheaper than the AX7582. Does any one got a review or is using this turbo?

Last week we spoke with Apexi and they told us that their drift car driven by Youichi Imamura has the kit AX7582 with their P25 hot side and they make 500rwhp on the 99spec stock engine stock ports. I am really impressed and i still don't know why nobody of you is using this turbo.

racer1 11-25-03 12:55 AM

Come on guys, nobody knows anything about this turbo?

BigIslandSevens 11-25-03 01:06 AM

Never heard of it. The newest magazine out here(Hawaii) had the apex drift car on the cover with a write-up inside. Maybe i'll go by the store and see what the turbo in the car is and any info on it for you. 500RWHP sounds nice!:)

Picture of the AZ75F82/92 turbo, I've see it and it's about as big as a T78! It's power capability doesn't warrant the cost IMO.

Garrett 11-25-03 09:53 AM

Doesn't Apexi use Hitachi turbos? I've always wanted to know.

I talked with the driver of that drift car about what turbo he had and he had no idea what it was. He said that he just drove what they gave him. I was very unimpressed with his knowledge. He was just eating up the spotlight by signing autographs at Nopi.

never heard of that one ...hhmm ....garrett i belive is right i they do use hitachi turbos ,...right???

WorkS2R 11-25-03 03:03 PM

they use IHI turbos, thats a hybrid of two other models, if i not mistaken, twin BB though.

racer1 11-25-03 03:27 PM

They use IHI turbos as far as i know.

Garrett if you are talking about Youichi Imamura who drives the white FD, maybe he just didn't want to tell you what was under the hood man, because as far as i know he is a head engineer if i am not mistaken in Apexi Engineering and for sure he knows his car;)

airn 11-25-03 04:20 PM

how much does that turbo go for?

racer1 11-25-03 06:34 PM

The AX75 kit for 93+FD goes for about $4500.

Garrett 11-25-03 09:18 PM

He really seemed to not know. He was a good guy, just didn't know what kind of turbo they were using. I talked to him for quite a bit about racing away from the crowd. He didn't come accross like a head engineer. Looks are very decieving with that guy.

Garrett

racer1 11-25-03 11:12 PM

Are you sure he was Youichi?:)

Anyway lets stick to the subject....Anybody knows or is using this turbo??

88fc3sw/HX83 11-26-03 01:05 AM

I heard the owner of HYPERSPORTS (Travis) is using it on his white FD, can anyone confrim this...RETED? :D

racer1 11-26-03 05:53 AM

88fc3sw/HX83 does he has a username in here? Anybody can contact him?

88fc3sw/HX83 11-26-03 06:18 AM

Ask RETED, because HyperSports is located in Hawaii

BoostedRex 11-26-03 02:52 PM

I'd like to hear more about this as the info becomes available. I think I'll stick with my plans for the GT40R, but information is power and one can never have enough of either!!

Ax75f82

the Ax75f82 is impressive but still not the top of the line (Ax75f92).
Claims that it can go up to 630hp. The A/R is 25 mm.

the exhaust manifold data is SUS304 ö60 t=3 i dont know what it means but i think it uses a t3 flange??????
im not sure...(1 big sqare hole and 4 very little ones on the side)

it came up on a discussion one day with my friends. He actually saw an rx-7 done by garage prestage in japan.
Their fd was running on 850cc injectors and set on 1.3
running at 430 hp.

I never heard of anyone using ax75f82 running above 500 hp. All fds that i researched using this turbo is running 1.2 or 1.3 at 430-450 hp with 850cc injectors.

maybe u can squeze more but if you insist on AX75f82
then just stay at that level for now on.

If i have the money? buy this turbo kit. IHI is famous for making reliable turbochargers. Anything that is inside ferrari f40s and nissan r390s will have my vote.

As for youichi imamura, he is a funny guy. If u see his antics in option videos then u know he is not to be taken seriously.

He used to drift in a beat up charcoal black ae86 and was driving for the bride sponsored civic in super taikyu. Then when apexi came, then he started using turbo cars such as altezza(with apexi turbo in it) and rx-7. Maybe he just did not want to get into the specifics, he dont have to know anyway. he has a team dedicated to him so he just let his team know how he wants the setup to be.

BoostedRex 11-26-03 04:21 PM

If this turbo is bigger than the RX6 then raising the boost above 1.2 or 1.3 bar would be no problem at all. I know for a fact that IHI turbos are reliable. They make some of the best "drop in" turbos for the WRX community. I have seen unreal dyno numbers from guys using the IHI turbos. One of them is my very good friend running the IHI VF34BB. He put down 419awhp @ 21psi with stock internals with his '02 WRX. I know that the WRX is a totally different car than our 7's, but I was talking about the IHI turbo more than the car. Ok, I'm done rambling now.

Michael Filippello 11-26-03 05:19 PM

Here is a translated link for all the specs on all the apex turbos. the ax series uses a t4 flange and the 25 is a code for the a/r which has a mm designation but not sure how it compares to a/r. I am not sure what the code break down is but I bet it is a .96 because I have heard that the P27 is a 1.06. The p27 is the largest they make but remember that this is relative to the frame you are using. A t25 with a 1.06 is different than a t4 with a 1.06.

btw: after pulling my apex rx6b, I measured the exhaust flange and it is about the size of a t25 but the wheel is a lot bigger. I wonder why they use such a small flange?

VOLK YOU!! 11-26-03 07:29 PM

mmmmmmmmm

dang it, i thought .9 a/r is big enough already

is your exhaust flange divided into 2 square holes or just one?

Michael Filippello 11-26-03 11:25 PM

just one.

I noticed the link did not work. Just go to altavista.com. Click on transrate and then pick japenese to engrish. type in www.apexi.com and go to the japenese site. When ther go to the turbo section and click on thr link for the rx7. there will be two squares at the bottom left that say data. the one on the right has all the specs..

Ok ppl some more info.

I just ordered yesterday a kit for FD3S (after we got an answer from Apexi) with the AX75F92 with P27 hot side.

This turbo has inducer 92mm (T51R-KAI has 94mm) so they are almost the same size, P27 hot side has A/R 1.06 and Apexi claims that the technology used on their bearings Dual Ceramic BB makes their turbos the fastest/smoothest spooling turbos in the market.

More details when i get the kit on my car. I will post some numbers and dyno sheets as well.

The whole setup will be. My 99 spec motor stock ports for now, Apexi GT spec FMIC, PFC wih commander, 1600secondaries, Apexi internal fuel pump, Apexi FPR, Cusco twin plate clutch with flywheel kit, koyo radiator, and all the stuff needed for a single turbo FD.

I'll let you know about the proggress.

Michael Filippello 11-27-03 12:14 AM

Racer1, are you sure this turbo is BB. The spec sheet on the japan website says it is "floating metal" not Ball Bearing as listed for the rx6 and smaller ax series. You are correct about the inducer being 92mm but they show the exhaust as p25 which is .98 a/r. I figured out how that works, just divide the mm designation by 25.4. Ie: a p27 is 27/25.4=1.06.

It is definately a t4 flange. This turbo should moves some serious air. The major on the exhaust side is 74.1mm with an exit of 70mm. The compressor housing is 17.8mm or .70a/r

hope this helps others.

racer1 11-27-03 12:18 AM

Michael Filippello yes i am 100% sure that it's dual ceramic BB. As for the exhaust this turbo comes with P25 but it's optional to put P27 so i've ordered a P27 with A/R 1.06

Michael Filippello 11-27-03 12:26 AM

sounds good, just wanted to make sure everyone gave you the correct info. On a t4 footprint you would be ok with either a/r. .96 would spool a little sooner.

I wonder why the japaneese website got that very important detail screwed up regarding the BB issue. That is the problem with websites sometimes. You find conflicting data on the same webpage.

let us know how the turbo works out. I bet the down pipe is bigger than my rx6:)
