Go for the XS kit. The T04S will produce more H.P., cheaper and when you need to rebuild it wont cost you $1800 for a new turbo.

I like my RX6, but I concur with Jason's recommendation for the reasons he listed.

The RX6 is an excellent turbo but T04S produces more Topend power. Now if you would have said AX7 then we would have a totally different story!

Max, are you saying if you would have done it all over again, you would have gone with the T04S???
I know the T04S has more topend then the T04E, but you get all that power through the entire RPM Range with the T04E.

Knowing what I know now about the RX6 kit (non-rebuildability, and unreliable wastegate) and since the XS kits are less expensive, I would probably get an XS kit. Or I would get one of those forthcoming GT kits, or an HKS kit that I would try to get past my SMOG check by keeping the air pump installed.

I like the RX6 kit, but some of the other options seem like a better choice if you are in the market to buy. And turbo lag is totally a non-issue after I have driven a single turbo that I would have no problem going bigger (like the T04S). Like most people, I was concerned that I would have a bunch of turbo lag after I ditched the twins. These fears do not come true, however, and you rarely hear single owners complaining about turbo lag. I think we're too busy trying to maintain traction.

so how much power can you expect with all the usual bolt ons and pfs @ 1 bar w/ a t04s? I know this has been asked before but another thread in this section is messing with my mind, so i'm asking again

what about for someone not looking to make crazy horsepower??? I only plan on making about 340-350rwhp with low boost. The most important things to me are throttle response, little lag, and also reliability? Is the XS kits superior to the RX6 in those fields???

Expect roughly 400 RWHP at 15 psi with a T04S or RX6 (maybe a little less with this one). T04E would be less in most cases (360-380?). You might make +/- 30 RWHP depending on what other stuff you have (porting, IC efficiency, exhaust flow, etc.). This is just a rough estimate, so please don't jump on me with "my friend timmy makes 600+ RWHP at 15 psi with a T04E" stories. I know that many people make more or less with these turbos under varying circumstances, but this is about what you should expect if you get all the bolt-ons and tune the car properly. And most RWHP stories that don't include a dyno sheet are BS. My gosh, was I just ranting there?

The T04E sounds like a very good choice for 350 RWHP. It will spool quickly and be a blast to drive, all without overstressing the motor or turbo at that power level. I've never driven a T04E, but XS says it actually spools faster than the slightly larger RX6.
