Yeah...

That's why it hits 15psi at 3500 rpm. I see where you are coming from, but there are SO many factors to spool time that just comparing sizes doesent do you much good...

i had a t78 in my last car. it spools faster...atleast it feels like it does.

I overlaid the dyno charts of the 15 & 25 psi R85 pulls with my T66 @ 18 psi. It is noticeably less laggy than my turbo. Just ignore the labels.

Dark Red = R85 @ 25
Pink = R85 @ 15
Orange = T66 @ 18

So the r85 has a smaller compressor but yet make as much if not more hp then half of the turbos list there?
It also has a huge hot side why is that?

Yes, it would appear that it has made more power, however, you need to take into account the engine and all the offer stuff such as tuning. If all that remainded constant it would have slower spool than the turbos on the list, and also would make less HP because it can not push as much as the bigger comp wheeled turbos.

So maybe this kit isnt as good as everyone thinks? it has a slower spool time and moves less air (so less hp). So why are people getting this kit and how did kg parts get 456hp @ 15psi and 616 @25 psi? Are you saying that it might be a rare thing to see those numbers at that psi?

dee used this turbo because it is sized correctly for the rotary engine in his eyes.

pianoprodigy,

my t66 at 19psi made 300 ft/lbs of torque at 4000 rpm and held 300+ to 7500 rpm, spool and powerband depends on so many factors that it's hard to compare turbos unless on same car with near optimal tuning.

Also, it is my understanding that the T66 (like many other turbos) may be setup different ways. I have no idea what the specifics are of my turbo. The previous owner simply told me it was a Turbonetics T66.

Here is a picture of my T66. I know it's not the best angle, but it certainly looks smaller than the R85.

the exhaust is smaller for sure but the r85 has a really large compressor housing.

The compressor housing looks smaller, because yours(most likely) does not have the anti-surge housings that the GT40R and the R85 have. However, this does not mean its smaller. But the turbine side is probably smaller unless it is a 1.15 ar

Just a correction on the GT40 numbers...88mm exducer is 3.46457" and the inducer is 63mm or 2.48". Just measured mine.

Looks more like a T61, looks too small to be a T66 but it's so hard to tell with that pic.

So do you think the only way he pulled those number (456whp) out of his car at 15psi was with a huge port job and some mad tuning and maybe with a few dyno tricks? Also I dont know how the anti-surge port works, I under stand it probable ment to stop compressor sure (hint the name) but how?

Guys,

Dee's ports are nice, but there is nothing special going on with them.

What dyno tricks are you talking about? Sheesh...

How much is spool time affected by tuning? I realize that my car may not make quite as much power as Dees car because of tuning; however, is it possible that the spool of the turbo could be significantly affected due to timing?

you need fuel lines and injectors.
