Anyone using a Precision Turbo 5862?

I'm on a smaller turbo kick right now to make the FD more drivable on the street (have a GT4088R now). Ideally, I'd like to see nearly instant response (>200rwhp at 3.5-4k), get 350+ whp with a HF cat. After looking at sequential BNRs, I'm starting to think that a small single with AI at higher boost (~18 psi) will fit my needs better.

After searching around, I'm thinking the PT5862 would work well; specifically the BB T4 Divided .84 A/R with 3 5/8" V-Band discharge.

Is anyone using this turbo; what's your thoughts/experiences with it?

well i'm using the 6262 .84 (you were posting in my thread) with uncontrollable boost.

if you have a good manifold and can control the boost, i say go for it.

check out ludwig's thread about the autocross FD.

yea ludwig's set up id nuts. he actually just stepped it up for more power.

however; streetable to me means no boost under 4k rpm. instead of opening your wastegate pulling out of a parking spot.

i think that turbo would work very well for what your looking for. i built a motor years ago for a guy who had a track setup car. he was running a gt30r with their biggest hotside and he had full boost by 2500 rpms. car made 330whp on 13psi with a full curve. the 5862 has a bigger exhaust wheel but with a .84 you will be ok. the car will start to chock at 7200 rpms though. i would recommend a rerouted wastegate as well helps with transit response.

How will a rerouted wastegate help with transient response?

To the OP personally I would (and did) check out a borg warner S256 w/ the 1.22 hotside P/N 177268 It should fit your needs as stated, has borg warner reliability and a low low price. It might make a little less power than the PT if your looking for the limit but it doesnt sound like you are.

I wont be on the dyno for another few weeks with mine but compared to a 3574 (gt35/p-trim) turbo with 1.0 a/r turbine my full boost (12psi wastegate spring for now) went from about 4000rpm to under 3000rpm, boost threashold in 4th gear is 1500rpm with 7psi by 2500. Transient response is very good as well. This is on a relatively untuned engine, read PIG RICH still running the 3574 tune, and running on the wastegate spring, so the boost response should only get better. I will try and post some results once the tuning is done as Im not aware of any of these turbos on a rotary.
