I've heard of barbed fittings/worm gears failing on in-tank setups, by the rubber hose splitting. Might not happen to everyone, but it's something to consider. 60+ psi at the regulator is the same 60+ psi at the pump outlet. I used the purple Magna Y-fitting.

I cut the whole thing apart and welded my own Y pipe. I made it to the exact distance of the pumps sitting in the tank. Pretty much it had 6an fittings ontop with 3/8" feed and return hardlines welded in.
I wasn't happy with the aftermarket Y unions so that's why I built my own. Took me about half a day to do it all but if you're not too skilled just buy the CJ Motorsports kit.

quick and easy way is to just use bulkhead 90* fittings through the sending unit, one pump on each bulkhead fitting, then Y them outside the tank. I got some bulkhead fittings that were a double ferrule compression fitting, then used hardline to the pumps.
