aluminum egt bungs?

Hello all. I am having a problem finding some aluminum EGT bungs for my crappy ebay manifold. :/ The flanges are steel, but the pipe is aluminum. I'm not quite sure how they welded them together to begin with, my my welded informs me that it will be almost impossible to weld the steel bung onto the aluminum pipes.

So now I am looking for an aluminum bung to have welded to my aluminum manifold pipes to hold my two EGT gauges. If anybody has any tips on places to look, that would help a lot.

Thanks
~Tweak.

Your exhaust manifold isn't al. Your welder needs to put the pipe down.

hmmm. ok. I didn't think so either, but I couldn't get a magnet to be attracted or repelled by it. I thought that stainless steel would still pass the magnet test, or am I wrong?

400 series stainless is magnetic. 300 Series(304 is what is normally used in manifolds) is non-magnetic. There are other kinds and each has its own properties but this is why your magnet doesn't stick. The flanges are either mild steel or 400 series stainless and that is the reason it is magnetic.

Hope this helps.

Chris

p.s.There is no way on earth Aluminum will weld to a ferrous metal.....

ok, yeah it is 304 stainless. Thank you. I did not know it was not magnetic. Good to know now. I am BTW, going to a different welder. If he doesn't know this I am a little worried.

If you can't find anyone local, send it out to http://www.hyperformanceracing.com/ . They'll fix you up, very reasonably priced.
